Slide a 15mm socket wrench into the narrow space between the engine wall and the tensioner pulley bolt. With the wrench in the "tighten" position, pull the wrench toward you. This will loosen the belt. To put the belt back on, have the belt ready to go except for around the A/C compressor. Hold the wrench tight in your left hand, and "slip" (read: work!) the belt onto the A/C compressor with your right hand. NOTE that the most difficult part is getting the wrench inserted between the engine wall and the idler pulley nut. You may want to buy a "butterly" socket set to make it easier.

There should be a spring loaded pulley with either a nut or a square hole for a socket drive to turn it and take the spring load off of the belt while you change it.

We need to replace the serpentine belt on our 1996 dodge caravan but the diagram has been removed.

Get the replacement belt, and then note the pulleys that have smooth finish, and note the pulleys that have the grooved finish.

Just 'thread' the serpentine belt, one pulley after another alternating between the smooth and grooved until the last remaining pulley is the tensioner pulley.

Use the breaker bar to allow the pulley to accept the belt, and you're done.

Serpentine belt for Dodge Caravan 1998, it repair

Go to auto zone rent a special tool used to release tension on the serpentine belt tensioner.

It's located on the left side looking at the engine from teh front,

You may not have a lot of room to fully pull back the tensioner SO have some ratchets ready and some sockets and a small pipe for leverage, it's a bear.

Your tensioner MAY be bad so you may have to replace it.

Serpentine belt slipped off. 1998 Dodge Gran Caravan 3.0 litre 6 cylinder

On this particular model of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan I determined that the upper hose from the water pump had slipped off and anti-freeze squirted on the serpentine belt causing it to slip off. Once the belt gets slick it never stays on. I replaced the belt by loosing the tensioner which is the idler pulley located in the center of the configuration, A big thanks to user motor1258for the configuration diagram.

I need a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan serpentine belt diagram.

The belt routing diagram is shown on a decal located on thehorizontal metal support above the radiator and under the hood support rod (passenger's side near the coolant overflow tank).

Serpentine belt replacement

What engine do you have? The 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a single serpentine belt, and a belt tensioner, so no adjustment is needed. Did you replace the tensioner, and want to know how much to torque it? countrycurt0
