If it's a gas engine you can find it in the back of the motor on top somewhere around the distributor. If it's a diesel its on the lower left hand side of the block just below the engine computer

Oil pressure at zero

its possible that the oil gauge go to bad, the oil pressure sending unit may have gone bad, the oil pump may have quit. I suggest you find the oil pressure line coming off engine, put another oil pressure gauge on it and then just crank the engien to see if you get any oil pressure whatsoever.

If you don't, then I would check the oil pressure sending unit next before I tore the oil pan off to examine the oil pump itself. Whatever you do, do not run the engine with zero oil pressure otherwise you will seize up the engine and that will cost big bucks to repair.

Hope this heslp (remember to rate this answer)

Oil Pressure sending unit gone bad. Cheap but difficult to locate. Depending on engine, sending unit can be behind distributer on block. If not the sending unit the gauge itself. Most likely sending unit.

Oil light on dash stays on oil up to mark on dipstick

This means you have bad oil presure or your oil sensor has gone bad. Start with checking the sensor on the engine. If bad replace. Other wise you need to check the oil sending unit and the oil pump to see if they have gone bad.

We are trying to locate an owners manual for my sons 1996 Pontiac Sunfire. The windshield washer quit working. First, we need to locate the fuse. I have found the fuse box but the fuses are not clearly...

well ebay is great for replacement owners manuals, for those issues however you are also going to need a repair manual which you can also find cheap on ebay.

it is the oil pressure sending unit. generally screwed into the engine block. autozone has a website with a parts locator feature. if the sending unit is good and the level correct then you have a bad pump.
usually if the oil pump is gone so is the whole engine.

Oil leak only when van is running and appears above the starter . Down 3 liters in 1 1/2 days.

It common for the oil to leak there when your oil pressure sending unit has gone bad. It's a simple fix, locate the oil pressure sending unit (between the starter and oil filter are) and replace. Auto Zone will have the part you need and step by step instructions to get the job done, Napa, and Part Source will have the part also. Do not use Teflon tape when installing the new oil pressure sending unit, the end is tapered and it needs a good ground to the engine block to work properly.

Good luck and this should take you around 20 min to replace once your start when the engine has cooled off to work on.

Oil pressure gauge keeps dropping to zero

Good chance that the oil pressure sending unit has gone bad and needs to be replaced. On the 4.7 V8 it is above the oil filter, you'll see the wires going to it. Your going to need to use a 1/16" deep socket for the sending unit and cost around $25.00, just be careful the sending unit cracks easy. Good luck and keep me posted. .

Where is the oil pressure sending unit located?

The pressure sending unit is located on the passenger side rear of the engine just above and slightly to the left of the filter and filter housing.
