No, if you replace one wire at a time then you do not need the firing order. If you have already removed all the wires, then post which engine you have and I will post the firing order.
Here is the firing order for that vehicle and engine, that is if it does have a Buick engine with the distributor mounted on the front of the engine, but if the distributor is mounted on the back of the engine then it is an Oldsmobile engine and I have that firing order diagram also if you require it.
There should be a click sound from the engine to know that you have the starter relay going. If there is none check that out if it is working or if the wires are connected properly. If there is check out the starter motor if it is connected properly or if it is working at all. Check also the ground wires if they are connected properly.
Just hook small wire on the same post that it was on the old starter, don't worry about the other post, sometimes the starters are made for different applactions.

starting with the driver side cyl 1-3-5-7 the passenger side is 2-4-6-8.line up your crank shaft on the mark it has to be on compression stroke the wires go 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. let me know how you do .
