Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock. Leave it in the 0 or I position. Push and hold the Sel/Reset knob (on the instrument panel by the fuel gauge), or the Sel/reset button on the right hand of the steering wheel below the Multi-Information Display Info button.

Charging System Indicator
The IPC illuminates the battery indicator when the following occurs:
• The generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts (switched low).
• The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
• The ignition is on, with the engine off.
Flashing ,probably a lose connection .That light is on if problem ,no flashing , no code's set. Have a qualified repair shop check for code's in the instrument cluster .
The PCM monitors the system voltage to make sure that the voltage stays within the proper range. If the PCM detects an excessively low system voltage, DTC P0562 will set.
When the charging system detects a fault, the instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays a message or the charge indicator will light.
The error is a communication error with the car's Electronic Control Module (ECM). Sounds like the dash/instrument cluster have a short. In later vehicles, they have printed circuit boards. We have companies that rebuild/repair those reasonably. Contact me to arrange for it.
Should the instrument panel lights come on when you start the vehicle or should they only come on when your lights are switched on? I would suspect they should only work when your driving lights are switched on.
If this is the case the you are going to have to get behind the instrument panel where you will find either
(a) the bulb is loose in its holder or more probably there is more than one bulb. In which case
(b) there is a loose feed wire, possibly at a loose connection and it will just need this pushing together a little tighter.
There can be many other reasons but with any intermittent fault you need to be in a position to be able to reproduce the fault to discover its cause. You may find with a little GENTLE feeling around behind the instrument panel you can find the wiring which makes the lights flash and you can follow it to try to find a loose connector.
If the lights are meant to stay off and they are flashing on when you are driving you have a short somewhere in the system and this requires immediate attention attention, it can lead to a fire as you are driving along.
1. Set blower to HIGH 2. Set mode position to PANEL (AC vent air) 3. Open all AC outlets 4. Temp. on full cold 5. Start engine 6. Push WASH and REAR WIPER switches for 5 seconds until all panel lights are on solid System will then go through it's paces as it calibrates the climate controls 7. When calibration is complete only the REAR WIPER switch/light should be flashing. Press this switch to extinguish the light and all should work normally.
Has anyone figured this problem out? Our 2002 Sable just started this as well...instrument cluster lights out, turn/hazard lights on when the headlight switch is turned on. This has the auto on/off switch with fog lights. This is happening in the auto and manual on mode. Any solutions would be appreciated.<br />
