yes their is a switch that senses the amount of gas pressure and shuts down system if their is not enough pressure, but playing with a high pressure system like this can seriously maim,so iam advising you to take it to a repair shop with a proper machine to discharge the system and then check for the faults ,but most likely cause is lack of reserve gas in the system and it just wants a re gas

You need to make sure the freon is correct,by having ac gauges put on the system,if the compressor is running the gauges will tell if there is a problem with the ac system itself, now,it can be the temp door actuator motor that is in the dash,if it is not moving the temp door open,it will need to be replaced.
SOURCE: AC has stopped blowing cold air. Compressor is working. Where is the recharge valve located?
There are two A/C refrigerant lines. The small line is your high pressure line and the larger line is your low pressure line.
Start at the fire wall and follow the "large " low pressure line to the compressor. The low pressure charge port will be some where on that line.
DO NOT try to recharge on the high pressure side ( small line )
Good luck, let me know.

Most likley needs to be recharged. Shouldnt be low, but if it has ever been in an accident it may have a leak or your mechanic stole the refridgerant when it was cold outside and you didnt notice untill you turned the ac on.
SOURCE: air condition compressor won;t kick in
Most likely a loss of refrigerant ( freon ) in the system. The A/C compressor uses a low pressure switch as a SAFETY to insure it wont turn on without freon in the system. Hope this helps.

Hi Emissionwiz:
I can't say. I had two mechanics look at it. The first said that we needed a new compressor b/c it was frozen up, but the second guy said it is not frozen ("Here, look. I'm turning it."), but it is not getting power for some reason. He used that light-up screwdriver thing (are you catching the level of my expertise here?) to test all the fuses, which were all good, and also to test how far the power was going through the circuit. He said he wondered if there was something screwy IN the compressor - some kind of fuse or whatever - that was blown, because by all accounts it should eb turning on. I know he mentioned something about pressure but that was okay. Any ideas?
My air conditioner only blows out warm/hot air. Took it to Jiffy Lube; who performed an AC recharge...which cleaned the hoses (?) and replaced the freon. They found no leaks. Suggested this was a compressor problem. Charged $60 for the service...still not working.
well owing to the fact that neither has checked this switch then u should take it to the dealer where they know what they are doing, Done 100's of AC jobs never ever in 30 years couldn't figure out what was wrong in more than 30 minutes, but that was a dealer.
does the low pressure switch have 12 volts to one side of the switch when the AC is truned on?
