2001 gmc jimmy rpms/accleration

When I take the tuck out of park and put it into drive/reverse it starts to accelerate on its own getting up to 20-30 miles per hour. When I place it in park or neutral the RPMS shoot up to 3000 and hovers around there. When I start or turn off the engine now the entire truck shakes. Everything was fine last night and early this afternoon it started on my 15 min drive to work and has continued everytime I have started the truck since.

I would recommend replacing the idle air control valve. Refer to any of the many YouTube videos on this subject and you shousl have no problem replacing it. It is availabe at Rock Auto, Parts Geek and most good local parts shops.

SOURCE: 1999 Gmc Sierra has no power

Sounds like the fuel supply is inadequate. Check for a plugged fuel filter, or possibly the fuel pump is losing pressure. I had a 93 Chevy V6 that acted the same way, and after checking everything else I replaced the fuel pump, which solved the problem.

SOURCE: vehicle hakes when driving 45 to 50 miles per hour

Check wheel balance,
check steering linkages for loosness - such as tie rod ends, steering rack linkages etc,
check driveline for worn/loose joints and bearings.

My 2001 GMC Jimmy wont accelerate. The RPMs shoot up over 4000 in first gear until finally changing but then shortly after shifting I lose acceleration all together. If I turn the car of and back on again...

Is the check engine light on? See what it says. It may be transmission related. The leaking fluid is probably transmission fluid. If it's really low you'll have a problem.

How do you adjust the shift cable on a 1995 gmc jimmy, wont go into reverse or park.

On the 1995 Jimmy, the shift cable can come loose on the mount on the side of the transmission where the cable meets the trans. When it slips, the alignment goes off and causes the driver to not be able to put the trans into park. If you take a long stick you can push the shift arm on the trans to the park position and your trans will go into park.....what you (and I) really need to know is how to take the shift cable mount apart and reset it.

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy that has around 93,000 miles on it. The last oil change was 2 weeks ago. Today, on a trip on the interstate, I pulled off to have dinner. When I left the restaurant and started...

If the trucks engine rev'd up when you first put the gas pedal down, but didn't go anywhere then it was probably in neutral (not drive as you thought). If it was in drive and still didn't go anywhere but engine still rev'd up then its a transmission issue or PRNDL switch at the side of the tranny. I can't see anything relating to the gas pedal by NOT reving up the engine when it was pressed down. I wouldn't suspect a throttle cable issue. Check the tranny fluid while truck is running in park, see if the fluid is badly burnt or low on the dipstick. If it looks good I would have the PRNDL switch checked. (Park Reverse Neutral Drive and Low) switch.

Sluggish accleration

SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE NOT RELEASING IN THE REAR IF WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT THE PARKING BRAKE IS CORRECT. JACK UP THE REAR OF THE TRUCK AFTER CHOCKING THE FRONT WHEELS AND SUPPORT IT WITH JACK STANDS. AFTER THIS, TURN THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION WITHOUT STARTING AND PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL. TRY TURNING THE REAR WHEELS. IF THEY BOTH TURN FREELY, THEN CHECK THE FRONT WHEELS. IF THE WHEELS DON'T TURN THEN THE HOSES MAY BE COLLAPSED ON THE INSIDE OR THE CALIPERS ARE FROZEN. HOPE THIS HELPS. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA.
