2008 dodge charger key fob wont start car. Still unlocks doors. Red light on dash stays lit. After disconnecting battery and then reconnecting in hopesmof resetting pcm the lights on left dash flicker wildly then red light goes solid again and still wont start. Any way to troubleshoot to find out if the issue is the key fob, starter relay or win module? And can you get the key reprogrammed without towing the car to the dealer?

This is a bad PCM. Try to disconnect the security system first and if it still does not start then it is the PCM.

SOURCE: IR control module for remote entry is inop

What I find confusing is the designation 'IR' which is applicable to TV and stereo remotes but have never heard of it used for automotive locks. It stands for 'Infra-Red' and this is only effective with 'line of sight' applications.
I know every one I've ever owned could be operated without the vehicle even visible as long as the range was not more than 50-70 feet.
These systems use radio frequency signals modulated by digitally coded signals to prevent 'one remote fits all.'
It would be interesting (as long as your patience doesn't wear thin) to find out how you have resolved this.
Mr. Massengill gave good advice since the battery contacts are now made so cheap that they won't donate a few microns of gold to them. Most I've seen were tinned at best.

SOURCE: reprogram 2005 Dodge Durango key fob

Go to the dealer. It is the only way, they have to use a computer. Changing the battery doesn't make it lose it's program though. You most likely broke the battery hold down. This is the most common thing I see at my shop. If the key still starts the vehicle, you now have a bad key fob. If not, you may be able to get it reprogrammed.

SOURCE: installed new ignition switch in

Does the key have a chip in it ? I'm not familiar with the car but it sounds like you might be at odds with the anti theft system. Check with the dealer and see what information they have. Good Luck

2007 GMC Sierra 1500 with Viper alarm 7146V. Why does the blue light stay on solid and why does it keep unlocking the doors by itself?

After Market alarms are always full of issues especially when the batteries are disconnected of the car batteries are disconnected.

Find a Viper Alarms installer and take it in for reprogramming with their pro grade scan tool computer.

2008 Altima with push button start. Why won't the fob unlock doors?

Insert key into and remove it from ignition more than six times in 10 seconds. When the hazards lights will flash twice insert key into ignition and turn to ACC position.
Then push any button on key fob once, the hazard lights will flash twice. Then open drivers door to END.
Should be all working again.

Dodge charger key problems, wont start car help

If your key was working before and it just stopped working try this:

I know this sounds absurd, but it works sometimes and is worth trying. If you exhausted all of the options above, disconnect bot terminals on your car battery for 10 minutes. Then reconnect them and try your key fob. This has worked for many people and I have no idea why. If you do, please comment below to explain.

WONT START.SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES WHEN TRYYING TO START

Anti Theft System - inmobilizer is actovated. Need disarm to start engine. Have you another key and fob? Try lock/unlock cycle with new key + fob. Your key may be corrupted.

Try also just unlocking the car with the key (not the fob) as soon as you unlock the door put the key in the ignition immediately and see if the car starts.

If you have your radio code it may be worth trying a total reset (leave the car unlocked) disconnect the battery and leave for 20 mins. then reconnect.

Hope help with this.

Won't start after cleaning battery terminals

Sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm with starter disable. By disconnecting the battery the alarm reset and the defualt setting is usually to set the alarm automatically (active arming). You have three options..
A. If you have the key fob that went with the alarm you can disarm the alarm.
B. If no key fob is available you can disconnect the battery again, turn the ignition key to the on position and reconnect the battery. This usually doesn't allow the alarm to set and allows the car to start.
C. Remove the aftermarket alarm system. This is usually the long term fix i recommend if the fob isn't available. Option B should get you going though.
