Because you have not mentioned what transmission you have I will start with a manual. I am thinking that the clutch pressure plate is on the way out and is slipping in the peak torque of the engine and allowing the engine rpms to peak out. Check clutch slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder as the compensating port may be blocked and holding the clutch partially disengaged. If you have an auto- run fault codes and look for an OD servo/sensor fault. Have a pressure test done on the box to check for internal faults. Check oil level when hot

Testimonial: "I have an automatic transmission it runs fine then at 55 it just looses power like i slipped into neutral and it redlines with no power if i put into drive 1,2,3 i can hold steady at 55 but its struggling at 5000 rpms thanks for any help you all can give me to start trouble shooting"

Sorry but , Ford is noted for not recalling the Pinto exploding gas tanks. Internal memo said, "Cheaper to let people burn in 15 MPH crash than accept responsibility" Also look at Explorer exploding tires.
On my Ford, the steering arm snapped off. Zero steering control!! Lucky I was 100 feet from home not on freeway
