I've puchased a 99 Mazda Millenia a couple days ago and I'm suspicious because my check engine light has come on... I talked with the Sales Rep. and he told me that it's something small.... My question is, when your check engine light comes on, could it be something minor or that's usual a big indication that something major is wrong?
I baught my 1999 millenia in december and when i was on my way home my check engine came on and i have a buddy that has a computer to check and see what the problem is and it was just my mass air flow censor, so i opened my intake up and cleaned out the censor with compress air and that took the engine light away and not a problem with that since.
Ususlly its something small it also could be that the car has been sitting a while in the car yard you could try disconnecting the battary for 30mns and then reconnecting this some times unscrsmbles the ecu causing the problem good luck
Check engine light is USUALLY caused by mass air sensors not working properly. If the car is running ok, then probably not too much too worry about. But if it starts running poorly it needs to be checked. Auto Zone will read the codes the computer is putting out for free, this is where I would start.

check the oil and power steering pump levels. on some mazdas if your power steering is half way filled the light will come on as well.
