My 2003 dodge ram 1500 only gets 12.3 gpm and my emissions light is on. Is there a way I can check this my self or does this truck usually get this kind of mileage?
12.3 gallons per mile??? I had a racemobile that got better mpg than that!!! (2.5mpg) Really... if you meant mpg, I have a friend who has one and his is about the same...was better 'till they started putting ethanol into our fuel!!

Small leak in evaporative emissions system. Basically takes fuel vapors and recirculates them back to engine to be burned rather than vented into the atmosphere. One common cause of light on dash is faulty/dirty gas cap seal. Did you add fuel just before light came on? Otherwise a small leak at a hose etc., in system, as well as faulty purge system may also cause it.
Your emission sensors seem to be just a 'spec' out of normal (I would not call them defective!), but it could also be tainted fuel. Just to pass test I would buy the gas treatment at your local auto parts specifically for emission testing. Ask them at the counter. It will get you passed.
Two things you want to know about the check engine light on any vehicle. One is it's an emission warning. The most common cause is a loose gas cap, make sure it clicks when you gas up. Second, is that being an emissions light, is that it'll require some test equipment to find the problem if you checked the gas cap and it's tight. You will want to do that at your friendly Dodge dealer. Why? They'll not only know what it is, it might be fixed free in the emissions warranty which has some parts that are covered longer than the vehicle's regular warranty. The shop on the corner doesn't do warranty work and they're not going to tell you if it might be covered.
yah the 12/16 was a lie dodge never got that with there gas 4weel drives the average is right close to 10mpg i have owned dode all my life. and have never gotten over 13mpg with them. I sold my 97 2wheel drive 5.9 gas and thats the best i did withit was 13mpg and that was with the 285/75s on it you have to remember that the tires that big actually travel more distance than what your odometer is going to read. But right around 10 is average for the 4wheel drives
Hello, I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 6 cylinder ( Ram Pick -up 1500) The indicator lights are coming on. One says LAMP OUT, and the other is a picture of the engine. I have no idea. Doesn't seem like anything is wrong with the engine and I didn't find any lights that where out. I need help.
