SOUNDS THAT YOUR TAPPETS ARE NOISEY COULDN'T TELL YOU IF ARE ADJUSTABLE OR THEY ARE HYDRAULIC TAPPETS NEED TO REFER TO HYUNDAI.

shift linkage needs adjusting,,could be bent, easy fix, located along firewall to fram beneath the column, ask your son wut he ran over and didnt tell u about... hope i could help...:)

Try checking the heat shield on your exhaust system. You should have one over the manifold and one over your cat converter under the car.

If it is an automatic transmission it probably needs transmission fluid. If a standard shift check and adjust shift linkage.

Hey mate, Had exactly the same problem. Suggest you take the car to your local auto transmission repair centre (not holden) and they can check the electrical diagnostics - if it the Transmission inhibitor Switch (as it was on mine - if so should cost you no more than 1 hour labour and about $75 - $95 for the switch.

Sorry, what I meant was reverse it goes away, neutral it comes back and finally in drive it goes away.
OK again, Intermittent problem.....start car, in park, sounds like the starter is engaged. As you shift down to reverse, noise goes away. As you hit neutral, noise comes back. As you go to drive noise goes away. After turning the vehicule off, and restarting, the problem is gone. THANKS for Any help you can give....ps changed starter 2 times....
