New alternator and battery drive 10 miles wont start battery dead

CAUTION: NEVER DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TERMINALS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. This will instantly destroy the 6-way rectifier/voltage regulator.

Check that the Generator Failure light comes on and stays on with key on and engine off. N.G., verify your connections on the back of the generator. This circuit must function or the generator will never charge the battery. If this indicator circuit is miswired (the small spade connector is disconnected, plugged into the wrong connection or otherwise nerfed) the voltage regulator open-circuits the field (rotor) windings and in turn, the generator will never charge and freewheel. Check the circuit from the connector on the back of the generator all the way to the dash, verifying the light bulb in the dash is good. My trick is to wire in a small 3 watt bulb (or a continuity light) in series with the circuit under the hood. Turn the key on to KP II and verify it lights up.

Others: Check ground from generator to engine. This is usually a large blue cable that ties off onto a bracket near the air valve. Check ground from engine to body. Check ground from battery to body to engine. Must read less than 1 ohm on your megger.

How do I install a Sunpro Super tach 3 in a 1987 Mustang 5.0

The Black wire will connect to body ground, and it should be a good solid ground and if this wire is not grounded well then you might receive a primary voltage shock if you touch anything that is metal or grounded inside of the vehicle when the engine is running.

The Red wire should be connected to power when the key is in the "Run" position only, and a good place to find that source is one of the "IGN" connections at the fuse panel using a covered female spade connector. Use a test light and be certain that the connection only has power when the key is in the "Run" position, and has no power when the key is in the "Off" or "Accessory" position.

The White or Yellow wire should connect to the "LPS" connection at the fuse panel next to the LPS fuse using a covered female spade connector.

The Green wire will connect to the "-" negative side of the ignition coil or to the "Tach" or "Test" lead that runs from the negative side of the ignition coil. To locate the lead run down the wire from the negative side of the ignition coil and the lead should break off from that wire and it should have a tag on the wire that will say either "Tach" or "Test" (sometimes it is just an empty black wire connector) and that is if the lead does not come straight off from the wire connector at the ignition coil. If there is no lead you can get a wire tap connector to tap into the wire from the negative side of the ignition coil and then use a covered male spade connector to connect the Green wire from the tachometer to the wire tap connector.

Here is a diagram to help assist you and if you can not download the image right click on the image and then select "save picture as..." or "save image as..." and from your image viewer you should be able to read this diagram or print it out, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

Vw camper T2 bay ignition problem

Please re-post your question as it sounds like you are talking about the later vanagon and not the bay-window type 2 since the bay-window units did not have fancy idle control and stabilizer units.

I need to find out how to remove the alternator from my 2002 Kia Spectra

The steps to replace an alternator are:
  1. Do the following through the passenger side of the engine bay of course with the hood up.
  2. First and most important is to disconnect the negative connection to the battery (driver side).
  3. Using a 12mm socket loosen the tension adjusting screw and bracket screw. Using a 10mm socket or open end remove wirings. Pinched other connector to remove.
  4. Using 14mm socket with 3/8 drive ratchet remove the big bolt on the lower side of the alternator.
  5. You might need some help from a pipe for extra leverage.
  6. Remove all parts that will hinder the removal of the alternator. For example the charcoal cannister on the firewall just slide up.
  7. Ease the alternator through the opening by turning the alternator untile it can pass through the opening.

Home wind generator early model chev alternator need schematic

Ok I'm going to try this from memory...last time used it was a few years back when wiring up a big boat. Large (B+) wire goes from battery to large terminal on alternator back. Facing the rear of the alternator, top spade connector on alt goes to a switch (there was supposed to be a resistor in that wire, but I never used one) switch connects to (+) on battery. Terminal on right goes to the (B+) terminal on alternator. Alt case is ground.
I can't find my old chiltons electrical book but that is how I remember it.
