Motor Oil 1989 vw fox

I just purchased a 1989 VW Fox. There was no manual. What is the best recomendation for Motor Oil.

I use 20w-50 non-synthetic aka Dinosaur oil in my 89 wagon year round, but he's a picky old brute and i live in warm california.

I use synthetic, but that's your choice... I use 10w-30 in winter and 20w-50 in summer

Vw 1600 fox will not go into reverse

Bring it into VW the shifter has to be reset and the hard plastic bushing that make the shifter work have to be replaced. There is a special toolVW uses to reset the shifter on these vehicles NOT ALL SHOPS HAVE IT. This is a no brainer. If the Dealer is gonna ask a fortune to repair it(Which they shouldn't) You can purchase this tool on line and with the shop manual you can do this yourself.

'88 VW Fox intermittently dying after starting

These CIS vehicle are tempermental. Best thing to do is change the air filter, clean air flow sensor plate(Spray gunout on a rag and lightly clean it ) Gun out throttle body and a slight idle adjustment. Finallyonce a month put some fuel injection cleaner in the tank. See how this works before we start testing items.

What wires go where on an 89 vw fox starter

The battery cable and the cable from the alternator go to the large terminal, with the 13mm nut on it. The small plug goes to the spade connector to the right.

Vw fox lights do not go on despite changing fuses and relays

Try testing the switch and then the relay. Usually its the switch. Use a flat screw driver to pull it s out of there connector. Use a jumper wire and shop manual to jump the terminals and see if the lights come on. If they do its the switch.
The relay you check for continuity and resistance.
