The Z71 typically comes with the auto 4wd transfer case (cannot remember the GM number). This requires AutoTrak II, which is available at a GM dealer. Do not use any other fluid in this transfer case! The previous post was correct in the location of the two plugs, but not on the fluid (the other types of transfer cases by GM use ATF). The transfer case is located under the truck right under the cab. There is a small skid plate under it, and a large driveshaft leaves the rear end of the case heading to the rear differential (axle). If you have the manual or electronic w/o auto 4WD transfer case, you can use Dexron III, but Dexron VI is a better fluid that is also now available at your local auto parts store. Again, if you have the AUTO 4WD button in the dash, use the AutoTrak II fluid from the dealer.

There are 2 drain plugs on on the bottom to drain and one about half way up the side of the case to fill it. remember to use the right oil to refill it. 80/90 weight or if yours uses synthetic 50 weight or 75/90 weight

How to change tranfer case oil??

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the transfer case. Check with your owners manual for the right fluid to replace it with. After you replace the plug on the bottom of the case, there is a plug on the side ( almost always on the back of it) remove the plug and fill it until fluid starts coming out of it

Need to change the oil! What all do I need to change it?

Well you'll need a jack, support stands, a drain pan to catch used motor oil, a new oil filter and oil, an oil filter wrench/pliers and a wrench/ratchet & socket to remove drain plug. Any further questions let me know

I have a gmc Sierra 2008 and I can't find the oil drain plug to change my oil where is it?

The oil plug will be located on your oil pan. If you checked ther are you sure you checked all areas? I have never seen one anywhere else. Especially on an american made vehicle. I don't know your experience level but the oil pan is located just in front of the transmission under the engine. I hope that helps you find it.

Where do I put the fluid in on my 2000 gmc transfer case

If You look at the transfer case you will see a Plug which requires a hex socket( allen socket), you should see 2 of them, one up high and another one closer to the bottom.

remove the lower plug and drain old fluid out, replace lower plug and remove upper plug, fill the upper hole with correct fluid. until it starts to pour out of the hole. let sit until it starts to slowly drip, and then replace upper plug

Hi, I have an oil leak from the case of the transfer box on my 2003 sierra 2500, looks like the case is worn through from the inside, can you help, is this a problem, thanks Stan

Yes it is a problem. There is a new design clip. The case needs to be disassembled, repaired and the new clip needs to be installed, or you will burn out your transfer case.

Oil coming out rubber plug on top of transfer case

Unless someone has added fluid lately, check for a small fitting like piece sticking up on top of case that is a vent for case, it may be plugged. Can try air pressure to unclog it, but may have to take it out & clean with solvent.

Transfer Case Oil Change-2003 GMC Sonoma

has your transmission oil been low? only reason i ask that is you said it acted like it was pressurized i have seen the rear seal on the trans go out and overfill the transfer case before. you never want to fill it over the fill hole. so if it held just over a quart that is what it takes. but there is still the question as to where the other fluid came from my guess would be watch for the trans fluid to be low.
