SOURCE: Transmission Leak. Torque Converter Front Seal?

I know that GM dosen't have a fill/check tube on several models. They use a plug on the side of the unit (like on stickshift transmissions) I'm sure there would be a similar item on your transmission otherwise after a rebuild, there would be no way to refill it. If it's a small leak you could try using a good sealer/conditioner such as Lucas, which may help you a lot.

What's the best way to get to the torque converter on a 2000 ford taurus with a ax4n transmission? Should I drop the motor and trans or should I just drop the transmission??

It sounds as though it is more work, but personally I've always found it easier to drop the engine and transmission together, then split the transmission.

It's much easier to work on the combined unit when it is removed from the vehicle.

Do u have to loosen torque convertor to remove the engine on a 5.2 and if so how?

The torque converter is connected to the flex plate by 4 or 5 bolts. There is an access plate or hole at the bottom of the bellhousing. So yes, you will need to rotate the engine by hand to access these bolts one at a time to remove them. Remove all the plugs from the engine put a half inch ratchet on the bolt on the front of the crankshaft and rotate the crank to position the bolts on the torque converter.

If the transmission just quit pulling then most likely the pump drive splines in the torque converter are stripped. The is a very common problem from 99 to 03.You will at least need to replace the torque converter and the fron seal. You may have other wear issues inside the transmission depending on how many miles are on the car and could need to rebuild transmission as well. The torque converter is the piece that connects the transmission to the engine and allows slippage at lower speeds. The transmission will need to be removed to replace this part.Good Luck!

It quit accelerating. all the fluids are fine. it wont go in reverse, neutral, or drive. i give it alot of power and it won't move. could it be the linkage? i do not think my transmission is out

This is common problem between 99 and 03, the pump drive splines in the torque converter are stripped. You will probaly notice the transmission fluid is higher on the dip stick than it should be.This is because the torque converter which shares fluid and pressure from the transmission cannot stay primed because of no pump flow. You can confirm this by removing a cooler line at the transmission and cranking the car,If fluid shoots out the pump is working if not then you are gonna need a torque converter and or pump drive shaft. The transmission will need to be removed in order to do this and if the pump driveshaft is bad you will need to disassemble transmission somewhat to install a new one.Good luck.

There isn't enough room to pull the engine without removing the converter. You can try to separate the engine and the trans far enough to get to the bolts with a wrench. Or remove the engine and transmission together and unbolt the two out of the car.

When my 99 ford taurus is in drive it revs but

Check your transmission oil...
Check it for...
1. Correct leve. (follow directions in manual)
2. Right colour should be light red or yellow (not Brown)
3. Smell, should be not unpleasant not burnt or bad.

If you find any of these things, the transmission is slipping, probably the forward clutch. Drain the oil into a clean pan and check it for black flecks of friction material, pieces of rubber, and metal filings.

This inspection will confirm the diagnosis of a failed transmission. If so, the transmission will need a rebuild or an exchange unit fitted..

The engine needs replaced and need to know if the transmission will need to be dropped to do so

no, Because the transmission is underneath your motor. now if you were changing your transmission you would have to pull out the motor then hoist the transmission out.
