Where is the temperature sensor for the temperature gage

Engine Temperature Sensor Operation:00116_engine_temp_sensor.jpgThis sensor monitors the temperature of the engine and sends that information to the engine control computer to regulate the amount of fuel needed - more if engine is cold and less if it's hot. The signal generated can also be sent to the temperature gauge as a visual indicator of overheating and imminent danger

I checked with autozone.com and their site says that the engine temperature sensor is not used on both engine sizes available for this vehicle.

The Coolant Temperature Sensor is used though. So maybe it has a dual purpose on your vehicle.

Coolant Temperature Sensor Operation:00113_coolant_temp_sensor.jpgThis sensor monitors the temperature of the engine and sends that information to the engine control computer to regulate the amount of fuel needed. More fuel is needed if the engine is cold; less if it's hot. If the temperature is extreme, the signal will be sent to the temperature gauge as a visual indicator of overheating and imminent danger.

Because ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor procedures vary depending upon their location, first locate the part. You may need to partially drain the engine coolant to prevent coolant spillage.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Unplug the ECT.
  • Then, unscrew it.
  • Reverse the removal procedures to install the new part.
  • Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.

Radiator fans not working on my 1995 chevrolet caprice classic

The signal path is that coolant sensor tells ECU that the engine is 'hot'. Voltage at the relay for the fans switches on main voltage via a fuse to the fans. Check the fans first; run a wire from the live battery terminal to the fans' positive connection. If the fans do not operate check the negative wires from the fans for continuity and quality of connections. If fans do run then check the fuse and the fan relay. The fan relay might be interchangeable with one of the other relays (main lights?) so temporarily swap it over and see if that has any effect.

Cooling fans on 1994 Caprice classic with 4.3 v8 not coming on. I have replaced the temp sensor on the water pump, temp sensor on the block, all relays, fuses are good, replaced the ecm (engine control...

On a vehicle this age, it is likely that the fans themselves have worn out. Test the fans by running battery power directly to the positive contact. If they start, they are OK. On 4.3 motors, there is also a seperate temp sensor to signal the fans, usually called a fan switch. I believe it operates independent of the ECM. Another possible culprit is a bad ground at the fans or even a loose or corroded negative battery cable.

Caprice wont start i touched the negative and positive on the battery with a wire and now the car wont star??????

By Doing this >>"i touched the negative and positive on the battery" You Most likely Burned the "FUSABLE LINK" for the Main Acc Power, Check the Fuse LINK on the Firewall, Chances are it is BLOWN.
Replace this Link and you will have Power to Nessesary Components to START The Vehicle.
