Let the engine cooldown,then open the bleed screw on on the thermostat house,do not remove just loosen----fill water in the radiator bottle slowly and watch for water coming out of the bleed screw----
sometimes the bleed screw is blocked due to anti-freeze-then take the screw off completely ,clean and replace----always make sure the engine is cool

The thermostat (on bmw replacement parts) have an arrow that has to be installed facing upward.if this was done correctly,to bleed the system usually there is a bleeder screw on or near the expansion tank(where you fill the coolant) and possibly on the thermostat housing. i would recommend opening both bleeders and keep filling the system with coolant closing the lower bleeder first and then allow the rest of the air purge from the other bleeder screw.make sure the coolant stays full and be patient you can't wait TOO long.

I have a 1996 ford ranger with a 3.0. It started to get hot. I replaced the thermostat. And purged the air from the system. It was still running hot. So I replaced water pump. And purged again.
Define hot? The gauge in the dash is not that reliable. You should use some other thermometer to check the temps. Also the condition of the inside of the radiator can be a cause of this.

My chevy Venture van still overheating after radiator replaced, temp gauge replaced and fans fixed. WHY?
You may have air trapped in the cooling system. This will cause overheating. When you fill the system, there is a small brass air purge valve above the coolant pump and another on the thermostat housing. These need to be loosened and trapped air released when filling the cooling system.

Mitsubishi l200 2.5 DiD 2007 74000 miles, bubbling in header tank, over heating and pushing water back to the header tank, heater is still blowing hot air!! So dont think its the thermostat, am I more...
There are other things to test before we have the engine spread all over the yard. Cooling fan operation. Yes the thermostat hot air in heater just means hot water. start with a cold engine then start and run at a high idle if heats quickly upper radiator hose hot lower cold good but reverse no flow. remove and test thermostat (not replace) put on stove boil water and watch it open once center piece is moving check with thermometer it should agree with stamp number on thermostat. if good check for slipping fan belt. check for air restrictions on radiator and water flow.

Replaced thermostat but still overheating?
Coolant system have bleed points. There is air in your system that needs to be purged out through the purge valves.. There maybe a few. You have to slightly open them when you first fill the system and let the coolant circulate till a little bit of coolant comes from bleed valves then you close them. Letting the system purge air by leaving the radiator cap open is not enough. Are you sure you put the correct temperature thermostat in , and facing the correct way?

I have a 94 crown Vic I just put a thermostat in it how do u know if it thermostat bad cause it running hot now
If it was running hot before you replaced the thermostat and the new stat didn't help it, most likely you have another problem. First make sure you installed the new thermostat correctly and not upside down and make sure you have purged all the air out of the cooling system. Your radiator could be clogged and restricted, not allowing coolant to circulate. Your fan clutch could be faulty or the radiator fan is not working properly. You could have a bad head or head gasket causing combustion gases to enter the cooling system. The water pump impeller shaft could have broke---These are the most common causes for an overheating problem. Good luck, i hope this helps.

The rise in engine temp after replacing the radiator and thermostat could possibly be caused by air pockets trapped in the cooling system. You will need to run the engine with the radiator cap off and let the air escape. DO THIS only when the engine is cold, and let it build up to temp. Coolant will over flow during this process, but eventually coolant will need to be added once the air is released.

Engine overheating
The best way to flush it would be to take off the bottom radiator hose and pump water through the fill nozzle after all the coolent is out you can then hook the hose back up and replace it with new coolant.
