What does check compass module means on my 2007 Ford Edge?

It usually means the compass on the vehicle needs recalibrating. That is the thing that tells you are going north or wherever in the mirror. The module is in the back of the mirror. Resetting is usually very easy.

Find an empty car park.
Press the Compass button on the mirror.
Do 3 complete circles left.

WHERE IS THE REMOTE COMPASS MODULE ON A 2008 JEEP COMMANDER

wow no symptoms stated just the boring where is it...
but great question, names car and year, clearly
we've posted the full fsm online here 100s of times.
here we go again.
down load it, then type , (after opening it)
control F, the type compass.
i wonder if a compass car has compass , omg.
i have 2010 and have same book.
did you scan the PCM yet, i bet not.
and its guess what, telling why it fails right now.
see page 8M-6 in book FSM.
the dtc shows car needs degaussing,, now.... see?
and if that error happens the compass goes blank, RTM?

8m-20
calibration, RTM
replacing first is "overthetop", why go there.
first are scans then tests.
or needs just a degaussing... (a tool)
page 27
"NOTE: In addition to the Universal Transmitter
operation the Electronic Overhead Module (EOM)
is responsible for some of the compass functions.
Anytime the EOM is replaced the compass variance
value must be set, (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/
OVERHEAD CONSOLE/ELECTRONIC VEHICLE
INFO CENTER - STANDARD PROCEDURE - COMPASS
VARIATION ADJUSTMENT)."
not only that the PCM can lose commmications with this OEM.
so not scanning all modern cars, is a road to doom.
why skip scanning the car first and checking fuses.?????

scan first
ask questions 2nd.
my motto.... and WIN

How do i reset the compass on a 2006 dodge grand caravan

Hi Roger, I'm glad to help. Below is the procedure for resetting the compass on your vehicle.

COMPASS VARIATION ADJUSTMENT Compass variance, also known as magnetic declination, is the difference in angle between magnetic north and true geographic north. In some geographic locations, the difference between magnetic and geographic north is great enough to cause the compass to give false readings. If this problem occurs, the compass variance setting may need to be changed.
To set the compass variance:

1. Using the Variance Settings map, find your geographic location and note the zone number Figure 1.
22681.jpg Figure 1 - Variance Settings 2. Turn the ignition switch to the On position. If the compass/thermometer data is not currently being displayed, momentarily depress and release the C/T push button to reach the compass/thermometer display. 3. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles depress the Reset push button and hold the button down until "VAR = XX" appears in the display. This takes about five seconds. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the C/T push button and US/M push button down until "VAR = XX" appears in the display. This takes about five seconds. 4. Release the push button(s). "VAR =XX " will remain in the display. "XX" equals the current variance zone setting. 5. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles momentarily depress and release the STEP button to step through the zone numbers, until the zone number for your geographic location appears in the display. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the US/M push button to step through the zone numbers, until the zone number for your geographic location appears in the display. 6. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles momentarily depress and release the RESET push button to enter the displayed zone number into the EVIC/CMTC module memory. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the C/T push button to enter the displayed zone number into the electronic module memory. 7. Confirm that the correct directions are now indicated by the compass.

The letter C is flasing in my dash board

The flashing "C" in the Instrument cluster if for the Compass. Here's the bulletine...

Subject: Compass Displays a Steady or Flashing "C" In Place Of Directional Heading
Models: 2008 Saturn VUE built on or after 11/09/2007
This PI was superseded to update Recommendation/Instructions. Please discard PIT4699.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern: The compass displays a steady or flashing "C" in place of directional heading.

To return to a normal heading display, press and hold the cluster stem for approximately 2 Seconds.

The displayed heading is not correct after driving for 30 seconds, use the following "Compass Calibration" routine.

Press cluster stem until the Season Odometer is displayed (Not Trip A or B).

Press and hold cluster Stem until the solid "C" is displayed. To the right of the "C" will be the "Zone". Refer to the variation zone map above for the correct setting. Turn the stem Right to increase, Left to decrease. It will take a few seconds for a change of zone to be updated in the display.

Once the Zone is correct, press the Stem to display the Flashing "C". Do not touch the Stem again until the direction is learned. Drive the vehicle in slow circles in an open area until you see a compass (oc tant) heading replace the flashing C.

Note: Vehicles built prior to 11/09/2007 were not built with a compass.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Engineering is aware of this condition and is in the process of root causing. It is known that the Remote Compass Module (RCM), Body Control Module (BCM) and Cluster hardware are not at fault, and these parts should not be replaced.

Reinforce with the PDI technicians that the Compass Zone and calibration is still required as part of PDI.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).
