My 96 escort wagon, 1.9 liter, automatic trans, has lost the rear window wipers, dome light (not map lights), and running beam headlights (not main headlights). Is there a ground or something that is common to these circuits?

look on internet for alldata disk but evan then they dont always have them, reason for this ???easy,,, to stop people like me from by-passing the immobiliser when the battery goes flat or someone loses the key as its a nice 200€ earner to release the immobiliser for the dealer only job.check the big fuses under the bonnet for corrosion on the legs.and check for dodgy earth somewhere .grease all teh contacts with a bit of vasiline

The dome light gets 12 volt battery power at all times. The door switch, when the door is opened, allows the current to flow to ground, and completes the circuit. The door switch allows the ground to be made. Measure for 12 volts at the wiring connector, and measure for direct short at the ground wire, with the door open. The Ground wire is white with a black tracer.

This may or may not be related, but....I just spent numerous hours on my daughters 1999 SC1 for it was "arming" the security system, and wouldn't start. This was irratic and would come and go. Today I discovered that moving around the wiring that goes to the center console fuse block would make the interior light go on and off. I was losing power to four fuses, one being the "chime" fuse. I had to remove the console, all of the fuses and relays to get the fuse block out and apart. It's like layers. The final result was a power wire connection that was opened up and loose on the terminal that feeds the fuses. You could see a little melted plastic around the connection. I think this may be a problem for saturns. I just tightened the connection, cleaned it and off we go. Hope this may help.

David,
Do you have a part number or location/description of the part you replaced? I have the same problem.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.
