SOURCE: Change of Manual transmission to Automatic transmission

This would be a major engineering job, it would be time consuming and very costly if new original parts were to be used and i suspect it would invalidate your warranty.

Would it not be better to trade in your car for an automatic version?

SOURCE: manual shift will not engage in gears

hi from uk just out of curiosity ? with engine off try selecting a gear manually by moving the selector link at gearbox from engine compartment if you can feel a selection ? then press clutch and start engine see if car moves with clutch slowly engaged ? if it does? then would suspect the actual g/stick vertical part that fits into the cables gate/selection has broken ? come back with update ? and please give history prior to this fault occuring ?as it would give more of idea what may have gone wrong ?

SOURCE: Topping up gearbox oil on 99 Hyundai Lantra (manual)

You can actually do it from the top if it is similar to a 2001 Elantra??? On your right center of the tranny, there should be two big bolts I believe a 17mm one on the bottom left the other top right of the other. The bottom left is the drain plug the top right is where you fill it. If you want to make things easier you can remove the air cleaner and the air cleaner housing then unscrew the sensor on top of the tranny you can poor it in from the top. You will need to then unscrew the fill hole (Top right bolt) Pour the lube in to the hole where you had taken out the sensor until it pours out of the fill hole. Sounds like more work but by doing this you will avoid making a mess trying to fit the squeeze bottle into the tiny hole. Hope this makes Sense????

SOURCE: How do I change an alternator belt on a '99 hyundai accent?

Call your local National Guard Armory, Fire Station, State College auto program or High School Auto Shop and ask if they have somebody that would come put it on for you. Ask you pastor who the "auto guy" in the church is, if you don't have a church call the biggest church closest to you and ask the receptionist if they have an "auto guy" that would help you. The local senior center or VFW hall have "auto guys" . If you were within 50 miles of 83501 I'd come do it for you.

Removal & Installation Raise and support the vehicle.

    Remove the engine splash shield.
  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
  2. Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
  3. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
  4. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.
To install:
  1. Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
  2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  3. Install the drive belt to the alternator.
  4. Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
  5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
  6. Install the engine splash shield.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

It's O.K. to ask for some help.

SOURCE: 2001 Hyundai - reverse gear is inoperative. The

If I understand you correctly, you have ALL forward gears working, but reverse doesn't?... then the problem is in the transmission itself or the linkage on the trans linkage into reverse.

I have a 1100 uno if u select reverse but it wil be in 2nd and if u go in to neutral it wil stil be in 2d gear so it selects 2nd gear by it self and the lever is in the revers position?

This sounds like a linkage or linkage bush has failed. Open the bonnet and find the linkages on the transmission, (gearbox), housing. It should have 2 heavy cables attached to it. Get a helper to work through the gears and watch the linkages and cables move. The linkage should move everytime the gear stick is moved. The cables should also have no slackness to them. If the cables are slack or the linkage doesn't move everytime get a good mechanic to look at it.
Changing bushes and cables involves crawling around underneath the car and trying to get up behind the engine so a mechanic has the tools and vehicle lifts to make this a lot quicker and easier.

Advice required re: Manual Gearbox Problem - Clutch drag symptoms when changing from 1st to 2nd gear.

problems with a clutch system will result in grating first gear or reverse gear as the input shaft is still being turned by the engine. 2nd gear is syncro operated so any mismatching of gear speeds will be overcome by the syncro ring of the gears. By double de clutching you state that the problem is eased somewhat and this indicates that the gear box is at fault ( shaft bearings, syncro rings, gear teeth ) hard movement of the gear lever would indicate failed gear cable ,linkage or gear lever pivot problems. What you describe is a gear box fault. I would take it back and tell them to fix it or exchange it . Keep all records of conversations and dealings as you may have to get legal help to have the shop full their warranty agreement. Time to remove ,repair and replace a gear box would not exceed 12 hours in an accredited shop

Gearbox - jammed

I'd start by looking at the clutch hydraulic circuit. "...could not put gear into 1st or reverse" suggests that the change cables on the transmission may be failing. And just in case, make sure there's nothing in the cabin that's jamming the gear change lever.

I have 1990 accord lx 5speed that is stuck in 4th gear but the shifter moves in all gears..To get home I had to ride the clutch in 4th all the way home..Checked the links from shifter to trans everything...

Do you still feel the same feedback from gear lever when you change gear or it appear loose? It looks like a gearbox problem, maybe due to low gearbox oil something has broken inside the gearbox.

1994 mazda navajo manual transmission gears are grinding and hard to shift.any idea what is causing this? it has a 5 speed .

The clutch plate or clutch adjustment seems to be the most likely thing in that it is not disengaging fully. Check the adjustment. There should be about 1" play at the top of the pedal movement and then the clutch should start releasing about halfway down. The other thing it could be is worn gear linkages and joint bushes. Have someone move the gear lever and check for play along the gear change train from the gear lever to the gearbox selector input.

Mitsibishi colt 97 stuck in 1st gear

Your link broke off. What might have happened is the car got stuck in 1st, and when you shifted to second, the link broke. Not too clued up on your car, but you probably need to drop the gearbox. On some cars you can take out the shifter without having to drop the box and still see if the link is broken. Good luck
