It's the transfer case vacuum switch. Easy fix.

My 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 z71 wont move. used 4wd then tried to put back into 2wd it would shift into any gear. Put back in park it makes a grinding noise

Sounds like your transfer case in neutral. You have to engage the transfer case back into gear then shift selector to drive or reverse. When your transfer is in neutral the transmission will not operate. Good luck.

I have a 1999 chevy silverado Z71 1500 5.3. It makes loud grinding and poping noises when I put it in gear how do I know if its the transmission or the transfer case?

the transfer case only engages when in 4wd. check the universal joint, it connects from the drive shaft to the rear differential. it may need grease or to be replaced.

How do i swich my 2005 silverado from push button 4wd to a manual shift do they make kits for this

Since the transfer case is shifted via an electric motor there is not provision for mechanical linkage and I show not type of kit to convert the later cases.

How does my 4x4 push button locker work in my 1989 chevy K1500?

That depends a lot on how your truck is equipped. GM uses several different 4 wheel systems including AWD, Part-Time 4WD, Full-Time 4WD, and ON-Demand AWD. Then there is another version used on some trucks that is a combination of 4WD and On Demand AWD. - it gets a little confusing but each system as slightly different charachteristics.

Genericly speaking, if you have the push-buttons on your dash that say "4-HI", "4-LO", and "2HI" and/or Auto-4WD , the transfer case has an electronicly-controlled stepper motor which shifts the transfer case into the selected mode. An electric solenoid/actuator then engages/disengages the front differential for 2-Wheel or 4-Wheel modes. One push of the button and it shifts the transfer case and engages the front differential.

That's much easier than the old days when you had to stop the truck, get out (Sometimes in the middle of a big mud hole) and lock the front hubs then get back in and play with the lever in the floor to get the transfer case to shift into the desired mode.

4wd doesnt work

First make sure someone did not replace the transfer case with a manual shift transfer case. If not you have what mechanics call "GHOSTS" there is a miscomunication somewhere between the button and the relay this will take time to trace down get a good multimeter and a wiring diagram.
