I have an A5 3.0TDI which has a flat spot when it's in normal drive mode. The flat spot doesn't seem to be as noticeable when it's in sport mode. Can anyone help?

Thank you for your response. The problem is noticable when the car is in normal drive mode and is sitting on about 1200-1400 rpm. If you try to accelerate quickly to overtake it feels like the motor has no power at all for about .5 of a second before you get this burst of power. I guess I just want to find out if this is normal. This is my first turbo diesel car so I'm not sure if there is anything wrong.

Can you describe what you mean by "flat spot"? Do you mean that there is par of the rev range where there seems to be little power? Turbo engines tend to produce bursts of power when the turbo spools up. Does the "flat spot" happen at low revs? If so, your turbo isn't spooled up yet. As you accelerate and it fires up you feel a rush of power. just a guess, provide more details and we'll try to help

Why are tires that have flat spots from sitting over a year not safe to drive on?

Any imperfections or flat spots will be worked out after you drive a few miles to get some heat into them. Some tires even develop flat spots overnight. It's normal for pretty much all tires...Keep driving on them, may take 500 miles of easy driving...It may make you nuts listening to the noise until they round out after some driving...saailer

It wont turn from sports mode

I would try disconnecting the battery for about 15min. and then reconnect to see if normal driving mode returns. Did this problem start after engaging sport mode? if so, you may have a faulty button that needs replacing.
