I have just replaced the crankshaft bearings on my Suzuki Jimny M13A and found out that when I start the engine it will not stay idle. I disconnected the sensor in front of the camshaft and it stays idle but it will not start. i.e. i connect to start engine and disconnect to keep it running.

No they have to be like for like. It is a preprogrammed computer and they don't adapt and learn. One ECM, one job only. There are places that will repair your old one.

seems engine is good, and is first, can't burn gas (petrol) with a dead engine
then spark seems good runs on Instant start spray(aerosol)
sounds good on spray. can. ? engine not sound like bucket of bolts?
then FUEL last.
the fuel pump on all modern EFI car\s is inside the fuel tank
fuses are first we check them all for NOT BLOWN
then scan the OBD2/OBDE port. (no country told so for sure answers possible)
fuses are shown in the now lost glove box users guide.
relays maybe not there. in the guide,
heck for 12vdc (a meter) at the pump wires. for 12vdc cranking, if good the pump is dead. hit the tank side with soft mallet. and bingo pump starts up.?

QOD, questions of the day.
1: does it start with 5% (a tad) right foot held throttle?
other causes EGR stuck wide open ,if it has one.
IAC stuck closed as all suzuki love to do. gummed up, clean it.
that is all there is no engine told at all.
nor county told. EFI and smog parts NOT the same world wide !!
are spark plugs 14 years old ? oops that be wrong. and HV spark wire sets if so fitted there.

My guess is the charge lamp on, what does not charging mean.

1. charge lamp on,?
2. battery volts, not 13.3 to 15vdc running, idle 800?rpm?
3. is charge lamp glowing key on, if fix that now. not running, it must glow or some ALTS will not boot up, called cold excitation current, that some NEED. fix the lamp.
4. wiring bad. to alt. or alt casing not grounded.
5. or car stalls.?
6. or battery goes dead when you sleep or long day at work>?
7. try to say what NO CHARGE MEANS? why do you say it.?
8. on new USA cars, some the ECU runs the ALT, so, and 2001 is common here, but I cant look for you can I. (no books on JIMNY)

It should be about 45 PSI at idle.

Chain drive. Unless the engine's been apart, why would the cam/valve timing change?
Valve clearances are another matter, and unless you want to remove the camshafts, get a mechanic who has the proper Suzuki tool to do them for you. You can measure the clearances, but the shims are between the cam lobe and the valve bucket, and the special tool holds the bucket down whilst changing to a thicker or thinner shim.

Either a short in wiring; a fuse is needing replacing or the engine is not running properly, which will cause the light to come on.
