My husband and I traded my Harley for a 1997 Mazda Miata. It doesn't have any owners manual. There is a small toggle switch with a red light on lower left dash. Can anyone tell me if it is for the soft top or security?
That toggle switch is for the security system. That year miata never came with any switches for the soft top of any kind. Most likely that is an aftermarket alarm system. Most factory alarm systems do not come with a toggle switch.
Your cruise control is also on the far left side. It lights up red/orange when engaged and you have to turn the "wiper" knob downward once you reach the speed you desire to cruise at. An upward turn accelerates the vehicle once the cruise control is engaged and functioning at a preset speed. Most Miatas did not come with stock security systems and they only blink red when the security key is pulled. They also are not commonly switch style. I think this is most likely the cruise control. Try to engage it and see if it works.
