Air conditioning not blowing cool air

My 1996 dodge ram 1500 2 wheel drive pickup truck with a 5.9 v8 engine, is not blowing cold air out of the air conditioner. I have tried to put freon in it but it will not take it in. I am wondering what else there could be wrong with it. The system works it just will not blow cold air, what could i be doing wrong. Thanks Don

How do you check to see if your ac unit compressor is working, is there a way to reset it, or is it run by a fuse or something.

To get the refrigerant in you have to have a technician purge the system first. Hope that helps.

Sorry there is no "reset" on a compressor, do u know what an ac compressor looks like? if not here is a picture. The chances are the system needs to have refrigerant added. if the compressor is running the front part of the compressor will be turning, not just the grooved pulley but the whole front.air conditioning not blowing cool air - c5a370a.jpg

SOURCE: Put wrong fluid in power steering of Dodge Ram

They make a machine to do this, but it is too expensive to buy for just one use. The best thing to do it to take off the power steering lines where the connect to the steering rack. Then start the truck and it will pump out the fluid in the reservoir. Feel free to keep adding fresh fluid to it while its running just to ensure all is out. Then, to get the fluid out of the steering box, connect the lines back up, fill the reservoir, and with the vehicle running, crank the steering wheel back and forth from lock to lock. This will take the fluid from the rack and eventually bring it back to the reservoir. You must then again disconnect the lines and flush it out of the reservoir. You may want to repeat this several times, it may take a long time, but will be cheaper than replacing the steering rack, box, pump, and lines. Good luck, and have fun. :-P

The air conditioning blows cold when at idle or low RPM's. It blows hot at faster RPM's that include most driving, especially highway speeds. What do I need to fix?

It is possbile that you may be low on freon in your pickup and you may need to have it recharged this will run you about 60 dollars.

2001 dodge 1500 pickup. The air conditioning

It sounds like a low charge. It could be a clogged expansion device also. It has a higher probability of being a low or contaminated charge.

1996 Dodge Ram 1500 standard V8 4x4 - Difficult engaging or shifting into 4-wheel drive, some grinding when trying to shift 4-wheel gear shift?

!996 that's pretty old school, I don't think that has a shift on the fly feature. Maybe once the hubs are locked in.
