I'm looking for the electric fuel pump wiring diagram for my 1993 Chevrolet cavalier 3.1 litre engine.I need to probe the harness plug at the fuel pump to determine if it is a voltage supply problem or the problem is in the pump itself.I don't want to risk damaging the sending unit or dash gauge in doing so.

Spray aerosol carb cleaner into the throttle body while an assistant tries to start the engine. If it runs for a few seconds then quits, you are not getting fuel into the engine. Check the fuses. You might have blown the fuse for the fuel injectors (possible if you removed any of the injector harnesses) or the fuel pump relay. Charlie
The sending unit sends a signal to the engine control module. The engine control module sends a serial message to the fuel gauge.
Check the connection at the fuel tank. If you have a digital multi-meter, check the resistance on the "purple" wire at the fuel tank connector, fuel tank side. The amount of resistance will be determined by the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. Generally it should be between 10 and 255 ohms.
