On my 2005 Chevy Silverado 5.3 liter 4x4 there is a clunking noise comming from underneath the truck. When i shift into gear, or from forward to reverse, or vice versa, there is a short delay and then a clunking noise. Why is it doing this?
Sounds like a bad ujoint.
I agree bad u joint but u need to block the wheels and put it in neutral then grab the driveshaft and pinion that is where the ujoints connect the driveshaft to the diff and also transfercase twist in opposite directions and checkk for play if any u will know its ujoint .but if u can turn connection at pinion back and forth meaning the whole driveshaft turns in both directions it could be a bad rear differential there should be little to no noticeable freeply at pinion while in neutral if there is that is indicating play between ur crown and pinion gear and should be checked at shop that generally indicates worn bearings and could get very expensive if left
