Trying to replace fuel pump in 1996 Dodge Intrepid. need instructions.
Even though the fuel pump is to be removed from the top, inside the trunk, you should probably drain the gas from the tank first. (I don't but I make sure I don't drop anything into the tank...) You should disconnect your batter, open trunk and remove the liner as the fuel pump access hole is between the wheel wells in the center of the car, and that plate has to be removed first. Next you need to disconnect the lines, the electric, and the fuel lines by squeezing the connector ends so that they can be unclipped from the fuel pump. You should mark the orientation of the fuel pump now as you need to put it back in the same orientation so that the lines will hook up properly. Then you can move the outer ring back around enough to remove it and the pump will come out after the retaining ring is removed. It is reccomended that you change the entire thing as a unit, unless you have the skills to just change whatever part that needs fixed - and you can procure them. Hope this helps you, Rick
