SOURCE: Tail lights don't work on 1998 Chevy Silverado.

check the wiring from the tailights back to the fuse panel, it sounds like an open connection. if i recall correctly check under the dash on the drivers side near the fuse panel for a bunch of wires in a bundle and look carefully for a wire or two that are cut/shorted/or seperated, you can also check under the drivers side kick panel by the hood release.

SOURCE: instrument panel cluster gauges and odometer has stopped working

I had all my analog instrument panel gauges stop working after they did the state emissions test. I found the proper fuse in the fuse block located under the hood. Simply unplugged the fuse, noticed it was still good, and plugged the same fuse (10A) back in and all the gauges started working again. Guess it needed a reset atfer they plugged in for the emissions.

The lights for my speedo, clock, temp gauge and fuel gauge not working, indicators, main beam, high beam, oddometer, handbrake, foglight all working ok?

You should have a fuse in the fusebox for the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster houses your gauges, speedometer, clock, and temperature gauge or light. Check the fuse to see if it blown and replace with the same size number on the fuse. Don't decrease or increase the number of the fuse. Stay with the same amp number that is on the old fuse when you replace it. Hope this helps.Good luck.

  1. Use a test lead with a indicator light / led to trace power to instrument cluster lights.
  2. A circuit diagram would be of assistance if you are competent to read the circuitry and symbols.

Instrument cluster lights don't work. Fuses and bulbs are good.

feed wire for the lights may have failed or the circuit on the board may have gone. if you remove the cluster you can put a supply to the bulb circuit (carefully) and check if it is the circuit. If it's ok you can run a new feed to the cluster from your lights. Job done.

Instrument cluster bulb is out. how do i replace

It may not be a bulb, as the instrument cluster usually has a number of bulbs and they probably didn't all blow at once. Pulling instrument clusters can be touchy and may not be for the average "shadetree mechanic" however, typically there are a few screws above the cluster going into the dash pad and a few hidden behind the trim panels below the cluster.

Check engine light does not turn on at all

The bulb is probably loose and/or burnt out. If you are mechanically inclined you can tackle this job... This procedure is the one i use, most often it's the blue high beam indicator bulb that goes so if you want to change it while your in there.....(hint hint)
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait a good 2 minutes to allow for air bag deactivation...NOTE: USE CAUTION ...Lower the tilt wheel to lowest position.
Remove the cluster bezel from the instrument panel.
Remove the two screws that secure the upper mounting tabs of the instrument cluster to the underside of the instrument cluster hood formation of the instrument panel top pad.
Remove the two screws that secure the lower mounting tabs of the instrument cluster to the instrument panel structural duct.
Pull the upper mounting tabs of the instrument cluster downward, then pull the instrument cluster rearward far enough to access the instrument panel wire harness connector for the instrument cluster. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector for the instrument cluster from the connector receptacle on the back of the instrument cluster housing.
Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel. Now do you remember which bulb it was? You can now see where the check engine light bulb is mounted. Twist and remove, install in reverse order. In some cases they are just loose or not making good ground, but after going through this just to access that lil bugger, i'd replace it.
I hope i have helped you and if you feel i have please acknowledge.
Be well and keep the cherokees alive....
