Engine overheating I have problem with mazda 323F, engine is overheating, I changed head gasket, but it is stil overheating, water pump is OK, and everything in cooling system except radiator that is not complete, but I dont think that is proble because before it was the same. everything started whem the engine pullled up some dirty from fuel tank. And I repaired that problem and I was driving my mazda for 500 km and it was started overheating, I changed geat gasket twice but..still overheating. can u help me please it is urgent. the fan is on all the time, I replaced the thermostat I dont thikt they put it in backwards, thermostat is used. Radioator have some paint at front not much, and it is not complete there is 1/3 of radiator, beffore that was not a problem, it is losing antifreeze but no one knows where.

Make sure cooling system is not air locked. Check your manual on how to refill cooling system. Do you have white smoke coming out of the exhaust when you first start it? All i can think of is the thermostat is not opening. or you may have a clog somewhere preventing the flow. Check the T-stat and hoses and radiator ( for clogs) Good luck

There are few things that can cause the vehicle to heat. Please check the following to resolve the issue:
- A faulty water pump can cause the car to overheat. If the water pump is faulty the coolant will not circulate properly on the engine which can result to overheating. You will need to have it replaced if that's the case.
- A worn out or damaged radiator hose. Just a small hole on the hose can cause the vehicle to overheat so have it replaced.
- A weak radiator blower motor. If the blower motor is weak it tends not to cool down the engine so have the blower motor replaced.
These are the few things that can cause the car to overheat so please have the following be checked.

Overheating is not always caused by a bad water pump or bad engine firing timing.
The most common causes are:
faulty radiator cap: steam/water will be escaping from the caps when engine is hot or oveflow tank overflows or empty!
crack cylinder head gasket: check when engine is cold thru radiator cap hole for milky oil in water radiator or large bubbles in radiator water after starting engine. Also check if water steam comes out of exhaust.
cylinder head itself: same symtoms as for gasket above.
SOUND LIKE BLOWED HEAD GASKET.BUT WAIT TO SEE IF ENGINE WILL CRANK WHEN ENGINE COOL DOWN.MOST CARS PCM WILL SHUT CAR DOWN TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE ENGINE.CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT.YOUR OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY BAD THERMOSTAT OR WATER PUMP.CHECK PUMP WEEP HOLE TO SEE IF LEAKING.IF YES REPLACE WATER PUMP.
hi, if you are changing the head gasket then it may be worth checking the water pump and thermostat as it could have been one of these that failed causing it to over heat and then blown the head gasket so check the water pump and thermostat once you have the cylinder head off.
You may need the head checking to see if it has been warped but this is unlikely on this make of vehicle.
Once you have done the gasket make sure that when you fill the coolant up you only trickle the water in to prevent any air lock as this will cause it to over heat again, check for any bleed screws on the coolant system to let the air out whilst filling the coolant up,
Its best you check in the workshop manual for these as their may not be none as it could be self bleed system.
It also worth checking if the head bolts need changing as they do stretch and can cause the gasket not to seal properly so replacing these may be a good idea.

ps what makes you think the head gasket has gone??
Before to look a new radiator, check for no leaks any where, thermostat, pump, head
gaskets. If this its ok, if the fans on right check fan clutch, make sure water is
topped off, if all is ok, then replace the water pump thats the last
thing you need changed.
did the electric fan on the radiator start up? if this dont start up, it can get the engine overheated , specily if the car run in hot weather , an when the car stay on idle . The other problem is the engine head , the head gasket can blow and you get the compresion presure in the water chanal .Try to se of the oil on engine is gray? If gray you must change head gasket.

no im a mechanic it sounds like that you have an air lock in the cooling system .i am familiar with ford freda and bongo and the design where the engine is is a bit far from the radiator ,so the problem with air locks magnifies.really the solution is just drain the water and refill it slowly while you are pressing and releasing,just repeat the action on the top radiator hose to get rid of any air trapping within the system,it's as simple as that really.you want it to have just water and no air as this will cause a blockage.
