2005 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor - Mileage: 110,000+ Experiencing repeated failures with replacement Ignition Coil Packs - failures have occurred at Cylinders 1, 3 and 4. Cylinder 2 still carries original OEM Ignition Coil. Replacement Ignition Coil Packs are manufactured by the same OEM vendor. Repeated failures approximately 6 in a 12 month period. Cylinder 1 failure was affected by oil leak or seepage from a defective engine oil cap - oil leaked into the #1 Cylinder chase. Last two or three Ignition Coil failures have occurred at Cylinder 3. Any insights, thoughts or ideas as to what may be causing the failures is greatly appreciated.

Try leaving the dress up cover over the coil packs off. It may be engine heat. Also check alternator voltage is not over 14.6 volt when engine running at fast idle. You are not alone with this problem.

Sounds like it needs spark plugs and wires, and a fuel system treatment.

The coils are probably all the same age and if one goes it is not unusual for the others to follow. Oxygen sensors fail routinely. Some at 15K some at 115K. The failures you have describe for the most part are unrelated to each other.

P0356
- Ignition Coil F Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
The ignition signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module(ECM) is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns ON and OFF the ignition coil primary circuit. This ON/OFF operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- Engine hesitation

Possible Causes:
- Open or short in the ignition coil circuit
- Ignition coil circuit shorted to ground
- Ignition coil connector
- Damaged ignition coil
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Possible Solution:
- If damage, repair ignition coil circuit
- Replaced ignition coil
- Replaced PCM or ECM

P0152 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
The heated oxygen sensor 1 is placed into the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air. The heated oxygen sensor 1 has a closed-end tube made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. The heated oxygen sensor 1 signal is sent to the ECM. The ECM adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the radical change from 1V to 0V.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- High Fuel Consumption
- Excessive Smoke from Exhaust

Possible Causes:
- Harness or connectors (The heated oxygen sensor 1 heater circuit is open or shorted.)
- Front Heater oxygen sensor heater (Bank 2) may be faulty

Possible Solution:
Replacing the O2 Sensor 1 usually takes care of the problem

P0174 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2
With the Air/Fuel Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. The ECM calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios.

In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the ECM judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the MIL (2 trip detection logic).

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Excessive Fuel Consumption

Possible Causes:
- Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection

Possible Solution:
Dirty air filter of faulty air flow sensor are common causes of the problem.

P2197 - DODGE - Sys Too Rich at Hier Load Bank1
Means that the O2 sensors on each bank are seeing WAY too much oxygen in the exhaust gas. In normal operation the signal from the O2 sensors should swing back and forth between rich and lean. Your sensors are locked on lean.

Those codes are the same as P0174 (and P0171). Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Most common place is the PCV elbow where it connects to the throttle body adapter.

2004 Mercedes-Benz C230 kompressor warning gauge Battery / Alternator needs to be service.

check your volt gauge on the dash. if it's working properly, then your car is throwing a bad code. if the battery looks as though it's taking more than 14 volts, or less than 10, you have a problem.

I have a 2005 c230 kompressor that needs timing chain replaced. i was quoted it would cost 1300 to 1500. does this seem reasonable? also, what other damage could occur with the chain failure?

Chain failure is pretty much game over. You could bend your valves and all sorts of other stuff. That price is a little high, but it is a very invasive procedure. If you were driving an 88 Toyota Corolla it may be a little cheaper, but Mercedes doesn't make anything easy to get to. It will probably take close to 6 or 7 hours from start to finish.

I would shop around a little more just to try to get a good deal, but I would say that $900 would be the lowest you may get. I know this probably wasn't much help, but that is just how it goes sometimes. Sorry.

Spark plug location 2000 c230 kompressor gasoline mercedes benz

Today's modern engines bury them in the center of the engine under the ignition coils. Most coils are screwed on the the valve cover by simple screws. Unplug wire from coil if possible. Remove screws and wiggle and turn coil. A long insulator should come out with coil. About 8" down the hole is the spark plug.

How do I reset the service reminder on a 2006 c230

Below is the procedure for resetting the service reminder:

  • Switch on ignition.
  • Press the system selection button repeatedly until the total mileage is displayed in the multifunction display.
  • Press the scroll forward/backward button repeatedly until the service symbol is displayed in the multifunction display.
  • Press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds.
  • The multifunction display will show "DO YOU WANT TO RESET THE SERVICE INTERVAL? CONFIRM WITH THE RESET BUTTON”.
  • Press reset button to confirm.
  • Switch off ignition.

Got 1999 C230 Kompressor key. Do I need to program?

this should work straight away, but i would first put the key in the ignition, and put the ignition on for 30 seconds to a minute, then start it up
