Thanks Jerry!  The radiator is full of antifreeze and the overflow is at the proper level.

Say Eliz make sure your radiator is full of antifreeze and make sure your over flow is at proper level.. If your low on fluid at all the heater will not get hot water to it to work properly .. this is a good start if it has been working in the past ... and thanks jerry

Ok then its the switch .. you see when you turn your switch from cold to hot it lets the water come into the car .. which is hot water coming into the dash area then a fan blows this into you.. there is a water control valve on all cars and its possable yours has gone bad .. it is what controls the water coming into your dash area, when you switch it to hot .. hey holler if you need more thanks jerry ...

There is a valve on the water hoses in the engine compartment by the fire wall. The house then goes to the heater radiator inside your car. I think this valve is vacuum operated. Have someone turn the temperature up and down while you confirm that the valve is closing and opening to allow hot water into the heater radiator. Vacuum hose could have came off there or behind climate control box behind dashboard

Audi A6 2001 quattro 2.8 mysterious over heating

Yes, replace the thermostat. Then you need to 'burp the coolant system'. Your car has all the hallmarks of air in the system, especially a heater that is cold. This is because there is no water in the heater matrix. This is why it overheats. The system must be full and with no air to circulate correctly through the radiator.

Burping involves the following steps.

Remove the lid to the reservoir, remove the radiator cap, fill the radiator to the top, turn heating on full blast, start engine and get to operating temperature, keep topping up. Squeezing the radiator hoses helps. The level will rise and then drop when the thermostat opens. Top up when bubbles stop and the level becomes constant. Put radiator cap on, top up the reservoir and put the cap on that.

Engine overheats and heater blowing cold air

You have air trapped in system , change thermostat , bleed air from system , let it run hot while adding coolant with blower full blast on all front and rear heaters .

Audi A6 air con always blow very hot air coming from engine with bad smell

The smell is probably related to the catalic converter when a cat goes bad it creates a smell similar to rotten eggs. You might need to replace the catalic converter. This will improve gas mileage and performance. The hot air blowing from the AC is probably a low charge on the Freon.

I just purchased a '95 Audi A6 quattro. I got it checked out before purchasing it and most problems were minor, but once I drove it 200 miles to my hometown the check engine light keeps coming on randomly...

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector. Let it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the car's computer and get rid of the problem.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I get no heat from my audi A6 1997 car my blower works ,I changed thermostat and radiator still not working.

I had no heat after replacing the water pump on my 96 Audi A6 quattro. After reading the last post, I found a bleeder on one of the hoses going to the heater core. I just turned it and it allowed the air to escape. Then I had heat.

When you change the heat system to read deg C, the outside air temp will also read deg C. To change between F & C press and hold the recirc button on the heat control and then press the + on the drivers side.

Audi a6 Dashboard problem in cold weather

sounds like a faulty outside temp sensor. This is located behind the lower front grill on the rad support. This sensor is likely causing your both issues as the voltage drop or resistance is not in the range the ecu expects. You can check http://forums.fourtitude.com/zeromain they will help to clairfy swapping the sesnor if you feel like getting your hands dirty.
