Buy new distributor cap. look at connection numbering on the cap and the orientation of the distributor clips. transfer the 5 wires from the distributor cap in the car to the new distributor cap one at a time so that the connections are not crossed. Set the new distro cap to one side. Unclip the old cap and pull straight up to remove. There is an anvil looking device with a piece of metal only on one side, sitting on a vertical shaft... this is a rotor. Grab this rotor and pull gently, straight up to remove. Reinstall a new rotor, reinstall your new distributor cap and secure the cap using the spring clip (or clips if you have two hold)..
buy new distributor cap with a new rotor. look at connection numbering on the cap and the orientation of the distributor clips. transfer the 5 wires from the distributor cap in the car to the new distributor cap one at a time so that the connections are not crossed. Set the new distri utor cap to one side. Unclip the old cap and pull straight up to remove. There is an anvil looking device with a piece of metal only on one side, sitting on a vertical shaft... this is a rotor. Grab this rotor and pull gently, straight up to remove. The shaft has a "D" key shape, so you can't screw up with rotor orientation. Put a small film of electrical grease on the top of the rotor, on an each of the pins on the inside of the cap which contacts the rotor. Reinstall a new rotor, reinstall your new distributor cap and secure the cap using the spring clip (or clips if you have two hold)..
no grees, and he said, distributor not a new cap. RTQ again.
now grease this is wrong. on or near any rotor or under any cap, go back to school
hey fixkick, no sure if you are a flunky or can't read... check out the purpose of a rotor and uses of electrical grease. stay away from engine and only work on the tires.

Well, to answer this we must know history, even the FSM states this.
its a toy engine so you have all facts online to match that engine.
1: it was wrong all along. timing ?
2: it was ok, time wise and want to just swap it out. ?
ILL shoot for the moon here, go easy way, #2
mark all wires. 1,2,3,4 (1 is water pump side, 4 is tranny side.0
mark cap terms too.
now transfer marks from old cap diz to new.
now remove cap on old
put crank at TDC such that #1 cap tower is at #1 wire.
this is called TDC #1 firing. (crank pulley marks are as FSM shows
then remove dizzy.
drop in new dizzy such that rotor still aligns with #1 cap tower term marked above.
clamp down dizzy
now do fine timing set running per FSM.
all this is at alldata.com and for if #1 is true, all wrong to start.
the above works for all dizzy cars made, mostly.
all this and more here.
vast info, all free too.

you'll have to pull off the interior panel. window in the up position. on the lock cylinder there is a clip that you have to pull off and an arm that actuates the lock. pop the lock out. reverse to install.

Yes a harmanic balancer from tha corolla is the same thing. I had to do the same thing with my 95 geo. It works out to be a lot cheaper buying for a toyota than a geo.
SOURCE: need to replace the starter on a 1994 Geo Prizm
starters are actually pretty easy. usually just 2 or 3 bolts holding it on. Just disconnect the battery first. Remove the bolts and the starter and then installation is reversal of removal.
Hope this helps,
Lee
