1999 Dodge Neon thermostat Installation

A car repair shop may have installed the thermostat in my 1999 Dodge Neon incorrectly; it keeps overheating for no reason. Is the flat side of the thermostat supposed to face toward the engine block or away from the engine block? Also, does the gasket go between the engine block and the thermostat or on the other side of the thermostate?

My 1999 dodge neon is overheating and just changed water pump and thermostat radiator. No leaks and no water in oil. Changed thermostat again and same problem . How can you tell if water pump is bad and...

Last time I had this problem I had a cracked head. With the cap off the radiator, run the engine at idle to operating temperature. When your looking in the radiator you should see the water circulating if the water pump is working. When you say the motor is over heating, if you have fluid coming out of the over flow hose then yes you are most likely overheating, if you are just seeing the gauge indicate you are over heating you may just have a bad engine temp sensor.

It pays to have it done by a reputable repair shop. They have the better tools and supplies to do the job. You can get flush kits at auto stores and they contain instructions on how to do so.

I have a 1997 dodge neon need to change the timing belt and was wondering of how hard it is and what I would need?

In all honesty that is a job best left to a repair shop. There is a broad range of specialty tools such as camshaft locks/holders used to keep the camshaft from accidental rotation during belt install to cam belt/chain guide install tools.
