High mileage synthetic oil is a good option, especially if you have over 100k miles. If you want to go with the recommended oil for your vehicle, I would also recommend an additive such as Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. Been using it in my vehicles for years and I swear by it. It's a bit pricey ($20 range) but I go 6k to 9k between oil changes. You can read a little more about it here:
I would use 20/50 SE synthetic motor oil or high mileage or if you have the money, Amsoil is also great. Also change your filter every time and keep your oil changed about 3000 miles or so. It is overkill to change the synthetic and oil filter frequently, but will very good for your motor.

Well a lot of motor oil brands will have a high milage formula, I prefer synthetic oil for my engine but at 194k miles if you haven't used synthetic oil for the life of the engine it's kind of pointless to start using it now. On that model I believe the recommend change time for the oil is every 5k miles, I would start doing it at every 3k and not worry about synthetic.
Try an oil change with the manufacturer recommended oil. Make sure it is the correct weight, type and grade. I never recommend synthetic for older cars with high miles. You can also buy oil additives at the parts store designed to increase oil pressure and quiet noisy lifters/valves. Oil light means low oil pressure, usually due to broken down old oil, dirty oil filter, or incorrect oil weight used.
The manufacturer recommends 5W30 conventional. I like Castrol myself. for a 1996 Camry. Newer Camry's require a 5W20 synthetic but not yours. Looks like 4 quarts is the amount.

Use SAE 5w30 oil. I recommend Pennzoil but all major brands are good. You can use Synthetic or Conventional oil. If you use conventional oil change the oil/filter every 5,000 miles. If you use Synthetic change it every 8,000 miles.
Anyplace that sells oil filters can tell you the correct filter. On your Pontiac I recommend you use an AC/Delco filter. Purolator, Wix, and Bosch are also excellent filters.
The 4 cylinder uses a AC/Delco PF47 filter.
The V6 uses a AC/Delco PF457G.
Do not use a synthetic oil, synthetics break down faster in engines of that age that have been running non-synthetic. Keep running a high milage 10w30. My opinion is Valvoline is the best.
Depends on the type of oil, temperature, and whether short hops or highway, but in general one changes oil twice a year. With the better synthetics you could go a whole year.
the factory recommended stuff will be fine, but if you want to spent the extra coin, you can go with the higher milage blend stuff from quakerstate or whomever. also if you've got a small oil leak, i recommend picking up some lucas oil stabilizer. that stuff is magic! i personally add about a half a quart for every 4 quarts of oil. it doesnt have to be exact, just remember you're adding it and dont overfill!
