My experience has been with an out of adjusted shift cable, the car either is slow to shift like the trans is slipping or it just won't shift into the next gears. If you have jerking going on I would seriously have your mechanic look at the transmission for either a bad coil pack or a bad shifter solenoid. If the car is just shifting into gear hard, then I would suggest to buy the repair manual for the car at and autozone or advanced auto for the $20 an read up on how to adjust the cable. Generally when you adjust the cable, Especially if the car is throttle body, You may wind up also messing the engine idle up. I'd work on it my self if it was for or Chevy but a benz is something I'd leave to the pros.

SOURCE: car jerks to side when shifting gears

Hi, just had this problem repaired. The lower arm bushings are bad...not the transmission. I ordered two sets from the nubira site (for the left and right sides of the car)...they are kind of like metal rings with rubber inside...this rubber dampens the shifting from the transmission. $250 - $300 job. Sure that's what it is...

SOURCE: Jerks going into 3rd Gear

You the beginnings of what is known as the reverse slam. If caught early enough it is fixable. However, most times a rebuilt valve body is in order. I do it for around $200. For the record any late 1992-2002 valve body will work, those are the type II. Type I won't work and is 1992-early 1992 years.

If I understand you correctly, you have ALL forward gears working, but reverse doesn't?... then the problem is in the transmission itself or the linkage on the trans linkage into reverse.

1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

Car will not drive forward or reverse after shifting.

Make sure the shift cable hasn't come loose from the mechanism on the transmission and that it's moving as it should when the shift lever is being moved.

I changed the gear box of my 2007 corolla about 5 months ago. Then I noticed the car jerks or kind of pushes forward whenever i change my gear from park/neutral to drive or reverse. Please what do you...

A delay of more than a second in shifting from the neutral to drive or reverse gear, could mean that there is a problem with the transmission. If on changing from a neutral or park position to the drive or reverse gear, the car does not immediately catch the gear and move forward or backward, then it could mean a problem in the transmission. If you change gears, and you hear a sudden clunk or sudden jolt or shudder, then the shifting is not smooth and there could be a problem with the gearbox. If the engine rpm keeps increasing but there is no increase in the speed, then it could be a sign of the transmission slipping. Most automatic transmission systems, nowadays, have a check engine light or an OD light, which flashes if there is a problem with the engine.

1997 chevy suburban automatic. has no reverse but drives. gears shift slow jerks while shifting into secound..before this it would lug while driving up hill...

you need a used trans, or a rebuild, but dont let a rebuilder fill you full of ****, all you need is the reverse drum, and possibly some clutches. the teeth on the reverse drum strip off, and thats when you lose reverse.
