You'll have to climb in the back and remove the interior trim panel. Once it is removed you can get to the latch and release it.

SOURCE: The drivers side door won't close.

open the door , look at the latch on the door , as it get older and non lubricated , the latch can stick in the locked position , i,m going to draw a picture .

when the door is open it should look like the picture , i suggest your door is in the closed position and why it bounces off as you say , take a , lets say a screw driver stick it in where the little lever thats sticking up , push the door open button on the outside door handle , pry that lever forward , if successful try it , and lubricate it , hope my barbaric picture gets the point across .

My rear hatch will not open on my 1994 jeep grand cherokee limited. How do i get it to open?

Fairly common problem. First try shooting WD-40 into the opening in the handle then flipping the handle several times. The mechanism tends to stick sometimes and this may free it up. If that doesn't work you will have to crawl in the back and loosten the trim panel enough to get to the latch. You cannot remove the trim panel without opening the hatch but you can get it out far enough to access the latch. Lube the latch and work it back and forth and it should free up enough to open the hatch

My rear hatch will not open on my 1998 jeep grand cherokee

Your Grand Cherokee has a small pop off panel on the inside of the rear hatch trim...after carefully removing this panel reach inside the opening and you will find a release cable...pull on this cable and the hatch latch should release...then try lubricating the latch at all contact points, and the mechanism itself...if the latch does not release the next try, then you will need to replace this latch...this is a dealer or salvage yard part...your least costly replacement will be through the salvage yard market...some salvage yards are now on-line, and will ship the part to you. Hope this helps.

its possible you dont have the right key. some vehicles were made with a valet feature, door key only works the door and ignition switch but not hatch

I have a 2007 jeep grand cherokee ltd. 4x4 and the dash keeps saying the liftgate is open but its not and the lights all come on and if you lock it the alarm goes off so what do i do?

sounds like a bad switch in rear hatch, switch is located inside hatch and is bolted to the latch . remove the panel and you may have to remove the latch to get to switch, then replace the switch, also try to un plug switch and see if light gos out, that is a sure way to test it. hope this helps.

My 1997 Grand Cherokee laredo has a problem with the rear hatch open/closed sensor; the ''brains'' frequently thinks the door is open when it is not. This is annoying when driving, leading to blinking...

the rear hatch issue is due to a faulty latch assembly or needs adjustment. replace that latch issue should be resolved. but u can access the wiring to it by removing the hatch panel and seperate the connector at the latch assembly , this should turn out the light, and also keep the alarm from going off!! hope that was helpful!!

How do you get liftgate open on a 97 Laredo with a broken lock?

You need to remove the panel from the liftgate and unlock and open it manually at the latch. It is not fun, but you can get the panel off with the hatch closed.

96 jeep Grand Cherokee tailgate will not open

This is kind of tricky. OK let's start, you have to crawl into the rear hatch area from the inside of the car. You'll have to pull the rear panel off the hatch, a screwdriver between the panel and hatch near the window will work. There might be 2 screws on the panel you could take out. The trick is to pull the panel far away enough to stick your arm down towards the latch and release it by hand. We did this at the dealer all the time.
