I have a 93 Buick Skylark GS 3300 Engine Series and my car is cranking but not firing. Diagnostic scan turned up a DTC42 code-spark timing error. The spark plugs are not firing. Replaced crankshaft sensor and the ignition module that the coil packs mount to which later I found out when I tested the old module, nothing wrong with it.. Problem still persists. What do I do now? What could be the problem?

Think a timing belt slippage or camshaft position sensor,
deffiantly something there to take a deeper look at.
double check the cams and their alighnment marks that they alighn with TDC if out of sync. nothing will fire right, the coil pack has no ides where anything is for some reason, good luck with this one,Gary

SOURCE: why is there No Spark in a 1991 Buick Lesabre

ECM would be the next part. Check the number on it . If it has the number 1228253 replace it anyway because they give a cutting off problem. Clean battery cables all three and replace bolts too.

SOURCE: 99 buick regal won't start

Hello, the Regal seems to have that problem. Insert your key in the ignition and turn it but do not turn the car on, make sure you here the fuel pump kick in, then at the end of you r fuel rail there should be a cap, remove it, use a very thin screw driver and push that part in, Be careful it's going to squirt gas, that's a good sign. If it does not, check your fuel filter. And last, if nothing above described works first check your negative wire on your fuel pump, second your injectors, they might be clogged.
Best of luck, God Bless.

SOURCE: 91 Buick Park Ave won't start

i just came across this problem myself the other day. i have a 91 buick park avenue that sometimes won't start. i checked several things out like cable connections and coil pack etc. etc. come to find out it was the wiring that came off the coil pack and connects to the crank sensor. the wiring that ran over top of the water pump had finally heated up so bad the coating on the wires had melted and when the engine got hot enough the wires would come in contact and send false signals to the computer not letting it start. after the car cools down and the wires contract it would start. so check the wires from the coil pack to the crank sensor to make sure the wires are not melted together.

93 Jeep Grand Cherokee, no spark from ignition coil

so gue$$ stinks sure.... why do that.?
all it takes is a scan tool to find this.

first you need to learn ASD relay rules.
to start a jeep 1993 to NOW.
the ASD most close, cranking, does it?
and most stay closed cranking and NOT drop out in 3 seconds.
that means crank for 5 seconds and if the ASD drops. at 3.?
easy huh?
if it did DROP i can tell you the ECU will set DTC errors you failed to see because you did not scan it during those 5 seconds.

http://www.fixkick.com/Jeeps/ASD.html

first is fuses.
lets make a list. works on all jeeps 93+
  1. battery changed. to 12.6vdc reseted.
  2. keyon, CEL lamp glows, if not fuse blown to PCM (ECU)
  3. engine cranks fast.
  4. Asd realy pulls in and holds.
  5. scan tool shows, what? BINGO. DTC errors, easy huh?
  6. ok no DTC, errors, live for 5 seconds, cranking,so lost spark? must be bad coil or wired wrong. (change it 1 wire at a time?ooops)
  7. coil dead, its not DTC caused, so if no DTC that means the PCM did not see Coil ignitor errors. to coil see? i bet its got TDC;s if not then i check the coil inputs. to be sure the PCM ignitor is firing the coil correctly with my scope, oops no scope.
  8. if no scope you get to buy a new PCM. Wild guessing bad ignitor.
  9. i use a Innova 3140 scan too that does 93-95 jeeps, for about $150 only about 1.5 hrs shop labor value. and is Investment grade tool, it would have saved you 3 parts, guessed already.

Car will run great 3 times it just quit. I checked #1 coil wire no spark pluged it back in started right up and ran great. and several times after turning off key it would crank but not start, let it

Have it scanned looking for diagnostic codes. Sounds like you could have a crankshaft or camshaft sensor problem, which will be a simple fix.

1993 buick skylark wont start. its not getting spark. changed coil packs, still no fire. battery is fully charged, fuel pump comes on. why would stop it from turning over fully?

is the check engine light on?if you have no spark, start with the wires, and work your way back. you say that you replaced the coil packs..... it could be a crank position sensor. please get back to me if the check engine light is on. also, let me know what happened from the start. were you driving? has the car sat for a while?

How do you know if your spark plugs are the problem?

bad spark plug or bad wire will cause one cylinder not fire cause engine to surge.but change spark plugs and wires, if engine still surge have fuel filter changed, check fuel pressure weak fuel pump will cause engine surge.if you see check engine light flashing code scan for faulty TPS SENSOR OR FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR OR BAD IGNITION COIL.FAULT IN THE PCM.
