While driving, my 99 Maxima starts jerking.....especially up hills. I step on the gas to get more power but I get a slipping feeling form the engine. The Check Engine light then came on. I had Auto Zone do a diagnostic check and 2 numbers came back. The first said one of my pistons is misfiring and the second said my Knock Sensor needed replacing. Does this sound right?
I have had a similar problem - 95 nissan maxima. Mine stalled after a few minutes of jerking though, and continues to stall within seconds of starting. The mechanic told me the knock sensor code is coming up, but other problems set off that code. They said I need a mass airflow sensor. This is a rather expensive part $370. I have had similar stalling problems in the past and have had the crank sensor replaced for it.I have had a similar problem - 95 nissan maxima. Karina, it sounds like the "Clutch is Slipping" several things can cause this. (1) The clutch could be slipping under load going up the hill because it has oil on it, "Due To An Oil Leak". (2) The Slave Cylinder could be going bad or it could have air in the system due to a seal leak or low on fluid. Check engine light on or flashing ? Engine misfire an you fried the catalytic converter but that is just a guess without testing . Can't help you don't have a lot of money . Your best option , take it to a qualified repair shop an have it tested properly .Don't guess ,test .
Hi, When was the last tune-up done? Should be done every 30-45KM, or depending on what your owner's manual maintenance book states. 1. Spark plugs 2. Spark plug wires 3. Fuel Filter 4. Air filter 5. Oxygen Sensor
If these have recently been replaced then do you have Check Engine Light (CEL)? If so, you'll need to get that checked by a mechanic.

Did replacing the mass airflow sensor solve the problem?
