To be honest I'm finding it a little difficult to live with the daytime running lights on my new Volvo V50.
However I've had my light switch setting set at the 'O' position and noticed today that the lights were a little less 'offensive' if I set the lights to the side-light position. Only problem is - when I switch off the car ignition the car leaves the side lights on and doesn't warn you when you open the door to lock it and walk away!
Can this be right - it seems odd that a modern car would allow this and allow you (without warning) to run the risk of leaving the lights on?
I haven't tried this on my Volvo, but found it on a forum by googling "volvo turn off daytime running lights" (without the quotes.
Try the following sequence:
Turn the headlight switch to the middle position "parking light". Turn the ignition key in position II. Pull the turn signal lever towards you and hold it while turning the headlight switch to position 0.

I'm not sure about your model, but some Volvos come with a little screwdriver hole adjacent to the headlight switch that you can turn to shut the DRL off. I believe the slot needs to be horizontal to be in the off position.
check under the passenger side dashboard, you should see 4 little screws holding a cover on. remoce the 4 screws and you will see the filter. i believe the screws are 5.5 or 7 mm hex heads
Hi Chris,
I am not up on V50s but I had a 960 and I disabled the lights By taking the 25amp bladed fuse out, I must say it was well warm/warped so I reckon a fuel save?
Hope this helps!
