1998 VW Passat hood lever location inside vehicle ?, told part of drivers side dash, is not obvious. There is a ''lever'' under centre bonnet which is in locked position. Cannot move this lever.

My answer will be based on an American built, left hand drive vehicle. Just inside the driver door, at bottom of dash should be a black plastic bar, approx 2 inches long with an outline of car with bonnet (hood) raised. Pull on that and the cable will release the bonnet (hood). There is a secondary latch, also known as safety latch, by the latch mechanism under the front of the bonnet itself. It'll be a lever type thing you either push to the side or pull toward you. Hope this information help. This information should also be in your owners manual. But I realize that if you bought this vehicle used, it may well have not come with the manual. Have a good day.

Hood release is lower drivers side of dash, then there is small lever in grill you pull out & lift hood (bonnet)

Open the bonnet (hood) and it should be under there close to the battery....It should have a plastic cover usually black. There is another one inside the cabin which is behind the pull down coin container on the right hand drive vehicle....

should be one fuse box under dash on driver side and one under hood!

For 1998 VW Passat V6 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.
The cigarette lighter fuse for 1998 VW Passat V6 is placed in the fuse box / relay plate fascia 1, (driver's door open). See pictures below:

you will find a black lever either on the right or left kick plate (that is the trim piece from the floor to the dash on the outer floor pan) inside the car, under the shelf, under the glovebox depending whether left or right hand drive.is is a bit dark to see it tucked up as it is.

On the lever that brike,you should be able to grab ahold of the wire cable with visegrips or pliers.Pull on it and your "Bonnet" or Hood should pop open.Hope this helps.

Depending upon how familiar you might be with the location of the under-hood release, you may be able to access it through the small opening between the hood and grill that follows opening the bonnet by pulling the lever under the steering wheel. A long narrow standard head screwdriver and a good light may be all that is required. That is exactly how the mechanic at the VW garage will release the hood latch.

If your not at all familiar with the hood latch, it might be useful to view the mechanism in another Passat so that you know how it functions. Less than a 5 minute job, but the dealer will likely charge about $65 to perform the task, substantially more to replace the broken mechanism.
