My display keeps telling me that my car doors are open on my 2000 Dodge Intrepid. I believe the driver's side door latch has gone bad...how do i replace it?
Dear friend-i think you must first try to press the switch with the hand and see if it works.you have to remove the panel of the door remove the screws on the outside with a inpact screwdriver, replace with new one.

Take out the 3 or 4 screws holding the latch in on the side of door. May need impact driver. And pull out, unhook linkage and reverse process for new part.
The door latch is locked in place or the door handle assembly connected to it has detached. Try taking the interior panel off and reattach or jimmy latch until you open and WD40 it or replace if really bad
The easiest way to tell if this is truely your problem is to check the door. When you have the door open; lift up and down on the door. if it has signifigant travel up and down you will need to replace the door hinges. Unfortunely one of the side effects of bad door hinges are ruining of the door latch. Look at the striker pin and see if the rubber coating is worn off. Most likely it will be gone.
I recommend checking the fuse for the radio. It may be blown. If it is, replace it with another fuse that has the same amperage rating. I believe the fuses will be color coded based on how many amps they are rated at. Just replace it with the same color. The fuse box is located under a panel on the left side of the dash. You access it by opening the driver's side door and gently pulling the panel off. I believe your owner's manual will have a diagram that shows what fuse goes where. There may be a diagram on the back of panel you pull off too.

1. Remove the front door trim panel using the procedures outlined in Section 23 of the appropriate service manual.
2. Place door trim panel on a clean work surface. Drill the mounting bosses' heat stakes, which attach the existing door handle/bezel to the panel, with a 21/64-drill bit. Take extra care to only drill in the center of each heat stake.
3. Remove existing handle/bezel from trim panel.
4. Clean the back of the trim panel of plastic fillings.
5. Seat the new handle/bezel into location.
6. Place the push nuts onto the handle/bezel bosses.
7. Use a 10 mm socket to install the push nuts all the way down on the mounting bosses to secure the handle/bezel onto the door trim panel. Using a wiggling side-to-side motion may be helpful.
8. Install the lock switch from the original handle/bezel to the new door handle/bezel.
9. Reinstall the door trim panel using the procedures outlined in Section 23 of the appropriate service manual.
The sound you are hearing is a built-in solenoid inside of the door latch itself, the part to replace will be the door latch or all latches that are making the noise.
