SOURCE: 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 tailgate will not lock shut.

Check to see if the mechanizm is siezed behind the handle that lifts up. this is quite common , also check the latches at the ends of the tailgate to see if they are not stuck in the unlatched position ,If they are retracted and won't come back out this confirms a sticky or siezed Mechanism.. WD 40 or someting simular to free up everything works well. good luck

How do I get the boot lock out of Hyundai i30 2013 to replace it when boot won't open

Sorry I am not familiar with the model.

Most cars of 2013 vintage use an electric release for the boot or tailgate and often there is no other type of release. If this is the case it is worth checking the vehicle handbook for the possibility of an emergency release.

When the electric release doesn't work, depending on the level of sophistication of the system, it could be a fuse, faulty wiring, faulty release button or switch or a faulty lock release motor or solenoid. It is unlikely the lock is faulty.

The last time I encountered a non-opening boot I had to remove the rear seat and wriggle into the boot and remove the boot lid trim panel and locate the wiring in order to connect an independent 12 volt supply direct to the lock solenoid. Once the boot was open it was a simple matter to replace the switch.

The previous time was similar except the problem was a worn lock and the time before the wiring had broken inside the harness where it jumped from the body to the tailgate.

Rear hatch won't open on my 2008 Pt Cruiser. It doesn't have power assist, you have to push up under the logo on a rubber sealed switch. How can I open it?

The hatchback vehicle and similar has an inherent problem that has been increasing since the rear screen wiper was first fitted to them. Wires must pass from the vehicle body into the tailgate and at this point the wires flex every time the hatch is opened and closed. Standard wiring is not designed to flex so much, so often, for so long and in such a wide temperature spread yet the vehicle manufacturers use standard cable rather than "extra flexible wire" and arctic rated insulation so it isn't surprising to sometimes find one or more wires at or near that stress point have broken. Usually this isn't a great problem or inconvenience - except when the vehicle has an electric tailgate release and that is the wire that has broken..

The fault with your tailgate could be a lack of supply from the front or a break anywhere in the supply or a faulty release switch or even the release mechanism itself but apart from checking the fuses there are few practical steps to take until the tailgate is open.

I have so far been called upon to open two such tailgates and not being a car thief or a locksmith I know only one way and that is to climb inside the luggage space and to do whatever it takes to remove the interior trim panel from the tailgate. It was then relatively easy to disconnect the release and apply 12 volts to the exposed terminals via a pair of probes and I was lucky and the lock instantly released. One needed a new push button and the other a wiring repair.

2005 toyota tacoma tailgate is stuck shut any suggestions hard to get the plastic cover off to work with tailgate shut I've wedged to keep open and try to pry the latch open going to lubricant with wd40...

I've never even seen a Tacoma but usually these things work with thin steel rods inside the panel. Is the catch releasing on either side or not at all? If you can undo or prise off something to access the rod then hopefuly you can wriggle it enough to get the catch to release. Lashings of WD40 isn't going to hurt, just wipe it off the paintwork afterwards

Peugeot 3008 lower tailgate jammed closed

found I had to drill a 6mm hole through the plastic downwards at the top edge an inch away from the outer end of the lower tailgate (over the offending catch) insert a rod or screwdriver 2 too 3 inches down then delicatlely feel for the spring loaded catch , this will release the boot lid and you can undo all screws and fastenings to get at the mechanism

Where is the fuse for the rear hatch on a 1993 chevrolet blazer? My rear hatch will not open at all. I can hear it ttrying to unlatch the rear windoiw but nothing happens.

If you can hear it then you don't have a fuze problem. More than likely it can be fixed by adjusting the catch in the tailgate. Open you hatch with the key and lower the tailgate. Remove the tailgate interior panel/cover and you'll see the catch for the window. Adjust the catch a little, tighten it up, raise the tailgate and close the hatch. Try your release on the dash again and see if this fixes the problem. You may have to repeat this a couple of times until you get it adjusted to where it needs to be. If this works, then reinstall the tailgate interior panel and you're all done.

2001 frontier tailgate won't open

Remove the inner pannel. Then move the handle the connecting rod from the handle to the lock will move. Then pull or push the connecting rod helping the handle. When you get it open move the handle again if it moves freely then most likely the catch needs adjusting to adjust loosen the screws aroung the catch on the rear pannel move the catch out a little try closing the tailgate if it takes undue force to close then repeat moving the catch out until it is easy to shut simple rule is if it is hard to close then it will be hard to open! Leave the inner pannel off until you can easily open the tailgate with the handle as you may have to give the handle a helping hand to open until you have finished adjusting.

Can't get the tailgate open on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I had the same problem. I was able to get the back window open.
I took the the 4 screws off that are on top of the inside of the door (where the tailgate window latch is).
Got a metal coat hanger. straightened it and made a hook at one end.
carefully pushed the plastic part of the tailgate towards the inside
slid the coat hanger straight down (to the level of the tailgate key/handle) to catch the door latch from the inside and pulled up.
that will get the tailgate open.
then you need to take the rest of the screws out of the lower part of the tailgate to get at the latch assembly. Carefully take the plastic off.
(you will need to take the nice black insulation stuff off the metal part of the door carefully so you can replace it and tape it up if necessary after fixing the latch.)
peel the insulation off the metal part of the door, you will see the assembly rod has come off the latch and will need putting back in place and a little sqweeze to stay on.
really bad design I guess, but since I fixed it at 140000, I haven't had any trouble with it at 166000.

The micro-switch is fitted inthe lock of the tailgate.Try opening the tailgate and manually close the lock and see if the boot light and the dash indicater light go off,if not, replace boot lock.If the lights go off, tailgate not closing properly, adjust the boot lock catch.Good luck
