Saab 900 dies while driving and won't spark when restarting

Car just flat dies sometimes while driving. No particular time (though noticed it sometimes around 3000 rpms the CEL might blink), but even when stopped at a light sometimes it just dies. After it dies it won't get spark from the coil and I have to jump across the starter solenoid to get it going again.

    89 Saab 900s manual. Tried replacing ECU, ignition switch, tried another ignition wire, and none of these have worked.

Your explanation is rather odd....first, how do you know you actually have no spark? Next, jumping the starter would not produce the missing spark. Sounds to me like fuel problem, like bad fuel pump relay or fuel pump.

SOURCE: 2002 Taurus won't start.

all I had to do on a sable was to replace the belt but look at the battery there should be a wire coming from the battery going to another solenoid mounted under the hood and then going down to the starter get a 12 volt tester and see if you have power going to this solenoid cause it could be dead on one end and not going down to the starter

SOURCE: rough idle on 1990 saab 900 convertible, 16V

Because the car has adaptive technology, it may take a while to reset and adjust to the new, cleaner and better conditions than those to which it had previously adapted.

Did you change the cap and rotor? if the plugs needed replacement, likely they do too

Possible other causes include:

loose or corroded connections to any electrical component you disturbed (make a checklist and tick them all off as you check them);

mis-reinstallation of any F.I. part disturbed(checklist again)

obstructed water flow through the AIC valve;

improper voltage output from the AIC valve (for LH 2.4 systems, should output 8 volt at idle, dropping as load increases; for LH 2.4.2 system output 7 volt at idle etc; testing between terminals)33 and 17 at disconnected LH connector;

possible problem with MAF.

Hope this helps

just had to replace the fuel pump on my 1999 Saab 9-3 with 130 K after being frustrated with stalling over the past 6 months. Earlier attempts to fix the problem were to replace the crank sensor and purge valve but that was just a waste of $600.
It's always something with this car unfortunatley!

Your ignition lock probably has sticky pin inside of tumbler.
Try spraying some WD40 or PB Blast into the key cylinder.

Saab 900i 1992 model won't Start

sounds like a fuel problem check for spark and try to get the car running on ehter (aerosol starting fluid) spray it into the air intake (makesure not to spray the filter just take it out) and have a helping hand turn the key if the car runs, then its a fuel problem prbly the fuel pump, NOTE: When running only on ether the car will sound very funny this is normal, IF the car wont start problems are elsewhere such as a timing belt slipping, no spark, no compression, Bad coil, weak starter, bad valve ect etc HOPETHIS HELPS feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]
