98 gmc jimmy will start and then immediately stall. If I let it sit for a couple hours or more it will start and stay running. could this be its losing its fuel prime and if so why?

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ? Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ? Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.
It sounds like the fuel fiter is clogged. Change the filter. It is located under the driver side of the vehicle tucked up inside the frame rail. Be sure to let the vehicle sit long enough for the pressure to bleed off before removing the old filter.
where did you get the pump replaced?a dealer or local garage There are 2 pumps for the jimmy one for a plastis tank which is an 18 gal and one for a metal tank which is a 19 gal.if the jimmy has a metal tank get the 19 gal pump . i ran into the same problem with my 98 jimmy
if before you start if you hold the gas pedal just a bit does it start faster if it does its our idle air control valve that defective (iac) let me now pierre
remove the carb. and clean the float , and the float bowl . when gas setts to long it gums up that area and doesn't get the right amount of fuel into the bowl , so when you hit a hill its starving for fuel
My 98 Jimmy runs on synthetic oil and starts well after sitting in cold weather. If the weather is the problem, try checking that. If it is warm... sorry no ideas.
