Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the light, but if the problem that turned it on is not repaired it will come back on again in a few days.

I drive a ford also and to reset it I have to use the controls located on the steering wheel to fallow the instructions in the dash readout. How new is your vehicle?
Hi Dennis
The light is warning you that there is a problem with the Engine management system, I cannot and no one else online can tell you what the problem is. But I can advise you to take your car to a workshop and have it scan, the technician will tell you.
The first thing to do is to have the ABS and engine computers scanned for trouble codes. The problem with the check engine light could also turn on the ABS and traction control lights. Or it could be different issues. The gas gauge being out of calibration could be the float in the gas tank or the gauge on the dash. I doubt that problem is related to the warning lights.
"Service Engine Soon" anounces the need of service of your car normally. Please, check your Owner´s Manual and verify the last time you sent the car to service and when, the next is coming according the manufacturer. Service shop will reset the ligth once the service is executed.
When the Check Engine light comes on that means that the computer in your Explorer has set Diagnostic trouble codes and stored them in the computers memory. After all repairs are made to all D.T.C. The codes need to be erased from your computer, this resets the Check Engine Light, and it should not come on again untill the computer finds another falt.Good Luck.
That's telling you your computer pick up a bad signal from one of your engine sensor's, have the codes read, go to any auto parts or autozone where they will do a free code reading, they can also reset the computer, but get back with us with the code number, so we can help you here at FixYa with your trouble code.
If it is a service engine soon light, get the problem diagnosed and repaired and the light will go off as the computer will no longer detect a problem. If it is an oil change needed light, read your manual and find the button to and instructions turn it off, most likely in or near a fuse box.
Go to an autozone they can read the codes and reset the light. They do this as a free service. If there is a problem and you dont repair it the light will return. Sometimes the light can come on for no apparent reason (no code present) a loose gas cap can trigger the check engine light.
