P144A and P1296 code on a 2010 Ford Escape

I have a 2010 Ford Escape that runs fine but the engine light comes on occasionally. It will come on for a couple of days and then go out for a few weeks. I went to Autozone to have them check the codes and they said the codes were P144A and P1296. What do the codes mean and how can I go about troubleshooting them?

SOURCE: The check engine light is on, the ABS, and the

The P1700 is just a request for the check engine light, and this is caused by the U2108. The U2108 is basically telling you that the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) is not communicating with the powertrain control module, or the transmission control module.
The very first thing we must do is verify that the fuses that power the ebtcm are not blown and that they are powered. At this point I would like you to verify that the fuse labeled ABS in the fuse block is not blown and that it is powered with the key in the on position.
I would also like you to verify that the fuse labeled V1 inthe power distribution box is not burnt and that this is powered also. After this we need to move to the ebtcm to verify that you have voltage at pins 15,17,18 and that you have a ground at 19 and 16.

This would verify that the ebtcm is getting the proper voltage supplies to operate. The end result of this may possibly be a faulty ebtcm, but at this point we really need to check these items prior.Feel free to contact me with any questions at this point! Thanks!

Your MAF may be dirty and needs to be cleaned or replaced. You may have a vacuum leak.

In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

CAN A TUNE UP OF A 2002 VW JETTA GLS 2.0 5 SPEED THAT WAS TUNED TO A 2.8 MOTOR CAUSE THE TROUBLE CODES P0420 & P1296

I doubt they did a 'tune up' at all. you only replace a fuel pump when it has failed. And fortunately for them, you can't see if it has been changed because it is inside the fuel tank. As my old dad used to say "they saw you coming", meaning you got fleeced because you are female. Put this on your car, leave it there. It talks to your smartphone and you can even reset codes. The Catalytic converter one is not critical, but the overheating is.

P1296 is a coolant overheating code.

My check engine light is coming on and my truck is slightly jerking. when I plug the code machine into the car it said P144A auxiliary emissions control. can someone tell me what this is?

This is a high reading on the last sensor on Bank 1. It is monitoring the end of the Catalytic exhaust flow heading towards the muffler.

A leak may develop and cause this reading to generate. The O2 sensor may be bad. Or the wiring to the sensor is damaged.
