code p 0171 refers to system too lean bank 1===causes ---intake /exhaust leak---AIR system---MAF/VAF sensor/s---fuel pressure/ pump---injector/s---heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) the one in the exhaust manifold for bank 1 nearest the firewall
P0140 BMW
P0140 BMW - O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
Possible causes
- Faulty Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Inappropriate fuel pressure
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Faulty Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 - Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted - Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection - Inappropriate fuel pressure - Faulty fuel injectors - Intake air leaks may be faulty - Exhaust gas leaks Replacing the Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 usually takes care of the problem.
P0131 - O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1 (sensor is before the catalytic converter)
Possible causes- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted - Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 - Inappropriate fuel pressure - Faulty fuel injectors - Intake air leaks may be faulty - Exhaust gas leaks P0132 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1 Possible causes- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted - Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 - Inappropriate fuel pressure - Faulty fuel injectors - Intake air leaks may be faulty - Exhaust gas leaks
I am not really sure what is going on here with the same O2 sensor giving these lean and rich codes, if nothing else is apparent and the engine runs well you may have a defective O2 sensor.
is it bank 1 or bank 2.use your scanner to know with one exact need replaces they are located on the exhaust bank one is close to the engine bank 2 is alittle furthe back...
just my 2 cents
P1170 HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 1 Circuit Fixed (Bank 1 Sensor 1) The ECM (engine control module) is getting a low or no signal from the front oxygen sensor on bank #1. Possible bad sensor or open sensor circuit. P1195 EGR Boost Sensor Circuit There is a problem with the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system. Possible plugged or restricted passage or sensor / sensor circuit problem.
P0401- Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Dectected
Possible causes
- Harness or connectors (EGR volume control valve circuit is open or shorted.) - EGR volume control valve stuck closed - EGR volume control solenoid valve - Dead (Weak) battery - EGR passage clogged - Exhaust gas leaks
Possible solution
- Clean EGR Valve - Repair EGR harness or connector - Replaced EGR volume control solenoid valve - Replaced EGR volume control valve Code P0171- Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 1
Possible causes
- Intake air leaks - Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty - Injectors may be faulty - Exhaust gas leaks - Incorrect fuel pressure - Lack of fuel - Mass air flow sensor may be faulty - Incorrect PCV hose connection
Possible solution
Dirty air filter of faulty air flow sensor are common causes of the problem
P0174- Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2
Possible causes
- Intake air leaks - Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty - Injectors may be faulty - Exhaust gas leaks - Incorrect fuel pressure - Lack of fuel - Mass air flow sensor may be faulty - Incorrect PCV hose connection
Possible solution
Dirty air filter of faulty air flow sensor are common causes of the problem.
