Leaking oil am leaking oil from rear of left side of engine icant see where its coming from

You have to define where the oil is coming from. front of the engine, rear of the engine left side right side where? If it is the rare you're most likely looking at the rear main seal. The next most likely culprit would be valve cover gasket's or oil pan gasket

Hi, For safety first please check the Brake Fluid level and if necessary add but don't drive it untal you can have someone check the brakes before you take it to the shop. That said, look down the left side of the undercarriage for oil caked on cross members on on the left side of engine. This is most likely blow by from the oil leak. Please provide more info as you trace the leak down a bit closer.

Check that the oil leak is not engine oil coming out before the bell housing ( sump gasket) If the oil is coming out of the bell housing inspection cover then it means box put and either flywheel off for a rear main seal or torque converter out for a seal in the box or converter.. If it is a sump or rear main seal check the engine oil level first and the PCV valve operation as excessive oil level and sump pressure will cause the engine side problems that you can fix without removing the box.

oil leaks from points like bad rocker cover gaskets --loose oil filters---front and rear main seals and oil hoses--- loose head gaskets at the oil hole . Check the ground and see where the oil is dripping to get an idea if the oil is from the front, rear. left or rights side

The Chrysler minivan products all had leaking problems. I have had 5 or 6 different Dodge or Plymouth minivans from 88 to 99. How bad is it. The most common thing is Valve cover leaks. Front and rear seals in the engine leak as well as the oil pan gasket. If its leaking a little bit at a time open the hood and look at the front and rear of the engine. Do you see grease and oil that has gone down the sides of the engine? Do you see a lot of grease on the engine with some clean streaks going through it. You may be able to see where its leaking from. If you know someone that knows what their doing have them change the leaky gasket/s. If not you can probably have it repaired for less than buying another van unless other things are seriously wrong with the van.

same here on my rav4 1996,i just put in oil stop leak been ok for 8 months :) you will always get hatters of oil stop leaks,but they work ok,though i find don't like them have never used them

check the oil pressure sending unit,clean engine then look to see where it is leaking,could be oil sending unit,dist drive seal or engine rear main.Need to determine wich side of engine.

If the source of the leak is betwen engine and trasmission housing then it will be rear main seal.

Most engine seals will leak if it is over 120,000 miles.

clean it off & inspect for a valve cover gasket leak, a head gasket is possible but unlikely. Use a flashlight & an adjustable inspection mirror (don't buy the cheap small one) to observe for the leak. if that fails you, then go to the local parts store & buy some Brake Cleaner, Florescent Oil Leak detector additive, and a lamp kit for UV dye diagnosis. use the Brake cleaner on all suspect/dirty surfaces, place additive in the engine oil, start engine turn on light & place glass'es on face, look for leak, ID & repair,, recheck work

Sounds like your oil leak is finding hot exhaust manifold and smoking/smelling. Make sure the oil filler caps and breather hoses that connect to the valve cover (Top of Engine) are attached securely. Try and determine exactly where the oil leak originates [Valve covers - top side, oil pan - underneath, or shaft seals - front and rear of engine, or left and right ends with the sideways (transverse) engine mounting]. Also check oil level - a blown head gasket or cracked head or block could lose coolant into the oil reservoir, causing an overfilled and thus leaking situation... this will show up as a creamy looking substance on the dipstick. If the engine is not making any other signs of abnormality, strange knocks or clicks, overheating, or losing gross amounts of fluids, make sure it has enough oil in the crankcase and drive it to a reputable mechanic for a true evaluation of the problem.
