The engine check light comes one while driving in forth or fifth gear above 3000 RPM. This mode places the vehicle in a System safety mode ( limp mode). I own a 2009 Ssangyong Actyon sports turbo diesel and have owned the vehicle since new and maintained it religiously. About 1000 KMS before its 150 000 KM service the check light came on while driving on the highway. I pulled over idled down switched off and restarted the car and the light was off. When it went in for service I requested that a diagnostic be run to search for a fault, however the service dealer could not find any issues. Recently 4000KMS after the service the safety mode has come on for frequent mainly when forth or fifth gear is in use when RPM is above 3000 or when ascending a hill in forth or fifth gear above 3000rpm . I went back to the service dealer and explained what is happening however the dealer says that the diagnostic system will only find a potential fault if the light stays on. Could you suggest any potential root causes that could be causing this issue as I want to provide the service dealer with good information as to find the root cause and have the issue corrected. My next best method for root cause is to take the service dealer for a drive until the safety system mode activates
The symptoms you describe exactly match those I encountered a while ago with an Isuzu engined Vauxhall where the management system falsely detected an overboost condition.
I didn't do the repair but I understand the car was fitted with a new egr valve.
Sometime later a very similar set of symptoms were presented but in that case the crankshaft sensor was cutting out when the engine reached a fairly high temperature. Switching off and waiting a few minutes was all that was needed to restore performance for a while.

There are to many things that can cause the check engine light to come on. Best thing to do is to go to Auto Zone and get the Car ecm scanned for the DTC codes which would indicate the issues to why the check engine light is on. It could be as simple as a bad gas cap and needs to be replaced and if that is the case, make sure your get one from the dealer and not a generic gas cap. It could also be a bad O2 sensor and Auto Zone can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the old O2 sensor with a new on with common tools and they do have that part for sale. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any more questions you may have.

Diagnostic Aids
If the DTC cannot be duplicated and is determined to be intermittent, reviewing the Failure Records data can be useful in determining when the DTC was last set. Also refer to Intermittent Conditions
